Hello old (and new) friends:-)
I am still fairly healthy, but my blood pressure is creeping up again; again, that could be pain issues, too, and depression, although I am on a good antidepressant which is helping. My main comorbidity was arthritis, and still is; the knee replacement didn't work, so I can't get around like I did before it (even after I lost weight). My back is better, but arthritis doesn't just go away.
I know what you mean about losing the will to get back at it. I have good online support, but I would kill for some in person support. I had a good psychologist in Michigan; but my copay here is $50 a visit and I can't afford it. Anyone have Skype? We could do a conference call. I haven't met anyone here to understand what I'm going through. My coworkers certainly aren't helpful.
Hi Dora! I am highjacking Theresa's post to say HI!!! Nice to see some familiar faces. I will be out 8 years in two days! What a bumpy journey. I also have been backsliding. I have decided that I will be getting on track and I have started this week! I wish you all LUCK!! Theresa, girlfriend, I am HERE for you. Love ya!!!!!
We can't choose when we will die, but we can choose how we will live!
I've kept it in decent check on weight, but it is a constant struggle. As I type, I'm thinking of the next thing I will eat. I've learned slowly what I can get away with, and this is not healthy learning.
I'm only up a clothing size from the post-surgery low, and my co-morbidities are still gone but I wonder about the long-term. I have been pushing sugar, and having some scary blood-sugar drops, but I persist. I'm hoping that the next iteration of the surgery will have more information on the mind-gut connection.
I'm glad to see you posting and to see that you are not giving up the fight! I am going to do some personal research on medications as well, I think there may be help there.
We have some folks on this board who are posting as experts, it is good to see another old-timer with the real experiences to base commentary on as well.
Hey there!!!!! Long time no see!!!!! I actually had gained about 50 pounds back a while ago.... Then I started working at a hotel as a housekeeper and I lost all of it, plus 10.... I am finally at my goal weight after struggling for 3 years to obtain my goal.... I am now finally looking into plastics with Dr. DiNick in Ypsi/Novi.... I am so excited.... I guess my only suggestion would be get back to basics..... Watch your portions, count your calories, get in your water and protein, and MOVE to Lose!!!! You CAN do it... I did and if I can do it, anyone can.... I know your frustrations, I went through it.... I have also recently quit smoking so I am struggling again with wanting to graze and much, so I keep lots of salad stuff in the house with VERY low-cal dressing, like vinegretts.... Cheese sticks are a good option too....
I really feel your pain since I was there, but I came back from it and you can too.... Good Luck and I am proud of you for getting on here and asking for help... That is the first step in the process.... You WILL and CAN do it!!!!
Keep us posted on your progress and what you decide to do....

I understand early-outs and their determination. We were all like that post op. Never Again we'd say, or I would Never Eat what 'that person' ate.. But, the furthur out you get, Life starts to go back to normal, and WLS isnt the foremost thing on your mind anymore. It stops 'defining' who you are and your being. And as this happens, we tend to get lax on our food planning, shopping, we go for the quick and easy things. And I never expected this Protein rich diet to be so expensive.
I guess my point is that we should all accept eachother for who we are and what our struggles are. and try to be compassionate and give sound advice that comes from experience. I think that is why these sites exist.

hang in there everyone

I remember you well - as you were one of the WLS "veterans" on this board when I was first researching my options, and I read your poss avidly. I haven't been on the Michigan boards in a long while, and here, I pop on tonight, and your post is the first I see!
I'm sorry that you have experienced regain.....it seems to happen a lot with RNY'ers and I feel for you. You could revise to a DS - but there are very few full-DS revision doctors in the United States that I'd recommend. If you are considering this option, Drs. Keshesian and Rabkin in California are top-notch. Dr. Gagner in Montreal does them, as does Dr. Greenbaum. I suspect that there will be more revision surgeons cropping up in the future, but taking down the stapled RNY stomach and revising to a sleeve is a really touchy surgery, and leaks are a significant complication.
I would NOT recommend a lapband.....I've met so few people that have done well with it. I am assuming you've visited the revision board here on OH? They might be able to help you in your decision making process.
I've been pretty lucky - I've had a ten-pound rebound from my very lowest, way-too-thin weight, and I've been stable since. I do keep an eye on the carbs - some days - and that's about it.
Please keep in touch!

I remember you quite well. I used to go patrolling all the boards - MI included after having my RNY done in thestates.
Rather than Lapband have you thought about Weigh****chers? We become like everyone else with our weight, our addiction comes back/emotional eating and all that stuff. Sometimes doing a back to basics program helps you refocus on the prize. Some swear by the 5daypouch test but I'm not a fan.
Good luck!
