Need some help.
Hey everyone, I'm having some trouble at my PCP doctors office. I go to Oakwood Healthcare Center in Southgate, Dr.Odeh is my PCP, I told her month ago I was considering WLS and she agreed with me.I went too a few different seminars and I really liked Dr.Hendricks from Henry Ford Wyndotte. I went ahead and made a nutritionist appointment, went too that and made a consultation appointment with Dr.Hendricks for this Thursday. I called the office of my PCP and requested a referral for Dr.Hendricks, that was about last week, I didn't hear anything from them so I kept calling, Dr.Odeh said she signed and gave the referral to the referral coordinators, I guess there the ones they decides if they want too send it or not. She told me because Dr.Hendricks is out of Henry Ford that they most likely wont send the referral... I went ahead and canceled my appointment since its been over a week and I cant see Dr.Hendricks until I get the referral. Has anyone else had a problem like this? Should I just go ahead and find a different PCP that's in the Henry Ford network, or just keep calling the referral coordinators and see what happens?
I attended the free seminar given by Michigan Bariatric, filled out paperwork there for surgery and they coordinated with my insurance. I had the surgery scheduled, then told my pcp. If she had not been supportive at that point, I would have asked the surgeon for a pcp suggestion.
So, why is a referral from the pcp an issue for you?

call the bariatric department in the main building on west grand Blvd in Detroit. they will tell you what to do . i had HFH and did not have any issues. And the Henry ford main has a better support system too!. sounds like your PCP is full of it. try mine Dr. Schabatis he is at m14 and beck rd. or even Dr. rabeek! same place. they know how to make the puppets dance. LOL
The problem is Oakwood pretty much refuses to give refferals to any Dr. that is not associated with Oakwood Medical. Your better off getting a new PCP.
Its all money and politics on this one....its not you.
