Choices, choices...
I saw my surgeon today and the behaviorist.
Both were wonderful people and both gave me the green light for surgery.
Now I go for my sleep apnea test and we can schedule surgery.
But now.. I go back and forth between DS & VSG....
I was DS gung ho... and now am thinking that VSG is right for me..
hmmmm

I am happy for you. I know how excited I was when I got the green light and knew that it wasn't a wish but a reality. I know you have been doing lots of research and can determine what is the best option for you to do. Take your surgeons recommendations too. Only you can decide what is best for you. I am sure you wll get lots of opinions but only you can decide what will work best for you and why. Let us know when you get the date and the countdown begins.
Thanks guys.. I have been on the boards for quite some time and have been actively participating in both the VSG and the DS. Moreso the DS as that was my surgery of choice.
I have been reading as many Blogs as I could find and am starting to second guess my choice of the DS.
The Vitamins or die aspect of the surgery kind of turns me off at this point.
I understand fully that you must take vitamins with any surgery, however... vitamins are detrimental to living with DS.
What if I run into tough times and cannot afford them.. you know? For a day or two fine.. but what if I cannot afford them for a week, or two...
Feeding my kids kind of trumps any needs I may have in life.
We are able to pay for them now, but bad times fall on good people sometimes and that is just another thing to think about.

I was set on rny for 3 yrs and just like 2 weeks ago changed my mind to VSG. I went back and forth going crazy with weighing the two but went with my gut feeling and feel good about my choice. Now I just want it done already lol. Where are you having the sleep study? I had mine at St Marys and had a nurse named Cindy who was such a kind woman and made it so relaxed for me.
Regarding the vitamins.....I take around 42 a day. I buy them in bulk and have shopped around to find the best prices. I get them from Vitalady, Walmart, Sams Club and GNC. When I buy I buy at least 3 months worth and spend roughly $130.00. It seems like a lot for vitamins but when I think back to what I spent going through Burger King and McDonalds each week that is nothing! Please don't let the daily vitamin ritual turn you away! I have gotten to the point where taking my vites is second nature and when I can pop and swallow 6-7 pills at a time it's not a big deal. Good luck with you decision!!
It looks like they are sending me to Metro Health for my Sleep Study.
Thanks for the info on the vitamins.. it is those kind of real experience statements that are helping me make this difficult desicion.
I do certainly fear losing JUST enough weight that I am no longer eligible for the full DS if it is needed.

Katie- you have to do what is best for you. Dr K gave me the same 2 choices. I viewed the sleeve as a possible first step for the DS. I am hoping to have enough success with the sleeve alone, but know that I can go to the DS if needed. The numbers for the DS are amazing. My insurance would cover the second step.
I love my sleeve and have had great success so far.
Good luck!
