Hi,

My mom says I may not be able to do stairs after surgery.  I live on the second floor....anyone have input on this?  She said, "you've had gallbladder surgery...not the same as having your insides rearranged.

You might be slower, but you'll be fine!!!   I did my basement stairs the day I came home, and managed to get down and up, and obviously.. I'm still alive!

Best Wishes on your surgery!

You wil be fine doing stairs after your surgery.  I did stairs going down to the basement to do laundry  couple days after surgery.  Now I made the kids carry the laundry baskets up and down the stairs for me (no lifting over 5 lbs) but I had no problem going up and down the stairs.

I did fine w/ the stairs. Actually for me the RNY was much easier than my gallbladder surgery. Your mom is wrong, gallbladder and having your insides rearranged is very similar in the way they do the surgery laproscopically. Same types of incisions and tools being used.

It will depend on if the surgery is open or laproscopic.
but it will also depend on you. If you take your time and move carefully until you are comfortable doing them you should do fine.

I may have been fortunate but I had very little pain after surgery and my mobility was not restricted very much either. I had to remind myself that I had just had life changing surgery and to take it slow. By week two the family was mad because I had so much energy that I kept cleaning stuff and making them clean too.

You too should be careful on the steps is you are taking pain meds after surgery because they could cloud your depth perception and stuff.

You sound very excited. I am happy for you!

I am excited.  Excited to see what I'll look like this time next year, and even more excited that I'll be able to wear jeans again soon!

some times it takes a while for you mind to catch up with your body's changes

I would strongly suggest that you take measurements with a tape measure. and record them in the OH health tracker. You can access it through your start page under your avatar.

and take before pix to front back  side views and find Close up of your face and stuff so you can put the old ones with the next ones as you go to compare the difference.

And journals at least once a week your emotions about the changes too.

Happy Journey (trails) to you!
What date is your surgery? I think I missed it.

I have a consulation with the surgeon on the12th.  They're pretty quick, so I suspect I'll get a surgery date before the end of January.
