I have a couple of questions. if you wouldn't mind answering. Please
These recipes look delicious but I would be afraid that the carbonation from the soda would stretch my pouch! And we should also be careful of the Sodium in the soda too. It can make you retain weight and keep the scale from moving!
are you using protein supplements from someplace like diet MD or something?
you refer to 1 packet of (xxx) drink mix.
What surgery are you having or have you had, if you do? Or are you doing the VLC liquid protein diet!
you might try some of the wonderful recipes pamT has here is here signature with links to her stuff.

However, I'm in the process of scheduling my consulation with the surgeon. The shakes are sold through Unasource, but they're protein shakes and from what I understand from my nutritionist and doctor, there are places that sell protein shakes outside of the doctors office.
Soda consumption is different with everyone. That would something that would be best answered by your doctor.

OK I see your on a VLC diet for now. God bless you that is a hard one. but you can do it.
I understand why you are allowed to have soda now. Pre surgery. Most of us who have had RNY or gastric bypass stay away form carbonated beverages because the carbonation can streach your pouch and/or make you very very uncomfortable. Diet soda contains a lot of salt and can cause you to retain fluids and then the scale won't move. So if you use the diet soda You might want to drink an extra glass of water to help flush the sodium from your body.
I use to use the Better MD supplements when I tried the VLC diet before deciding on WLS, but found that they were expensive and didn't give me the bang for my buck in protein that I required after surgery. A lot of the RNY-ers choose 100% whey protein that can be purchase from GNC, Walmart, drug store and many other places. One drink can give you 27 gs. of protein ( which can boost your weight loss and keep you from feeling hungry) verses the 12 grams in those packets. As a RNY patient we are to get at least 80 grams of protein per day. With our restricted pouch we need to get it in smaller quanties of nurishment.
but since your on a VLC program with your nutrionist You should always follow her guide lines. I would never sugest you do anything different.

The idea that carbonation can stretch your pouch is just an urban legend / myth. It's biologically not possible. Fluid flows straight through our pouch and doesn't stop to hang around for any time at all.
As for sodium. Yes, we need to watch it. But if you really counted your sodium intake these days you'd probably find that you're not getting enough. We should shoot for around 2500mg per day. Less than about 2000mg can cause problems with low blood pressure. The American Heart Association considers 2500mg a "low sodium" diet. When I was struggling with low blood pressure I had to count my sodium intake just as religiously as my protein and fiber intake and I often struggled to get enough and had to add salt to stuff I normally wouldn't salt just to get my 2500mg per day.

Thanks for posting these. They all look so delicious!
I know that some people can't do soda after WLS and that there's a lot of misinformation floating around about carbonation stretching the pouch. I don't do much soda because the carbonation usually hurts my tummy and gives me gas --- but sometimes my mouth overrules my tummy. But I bet once you put the soda in the blender the carbonation wouldn't be as big of an issue anyway. I'll have to give a few of these a try. :-)
Thanks again!
Pam
