Hello! My name is Jenn, I am hoping to have RNY surgery at UM, I am just in the beginning stages, have been researching, reading the boards, etc.  Has anyone worked with U of M?  Thoughts, advise?  Thanks!

Hi Jenn!

The only experience I had with U of M was when I was doing my initial research, I did check into U of M and started in September.  There was such a long wait list (Feb of the next year!) for an appointment and then I found out it was out of network for my insurance so I chose to go to Hurley in Flint.

So my advice would be to call now if you are thinking about it because it may take some time to get in and go through the process!

Good Luck to you!

Nan

Thanks Nan!  I am going to check out Beaumont in Royal Oak too.  I have heard that with with UM's program you have to do diet modification for 6 months prior, even if you insurance doesn't require it.

I went through U of M and I think they have a great program.  My insurance required the 6 months weight loss anyway.  I think if it is only required by U of M, you might be able to bring in things like Weigh****chers documentation.  You should call and schedule to attend the information session and they will give you the requirements and application when you are there.  I also attended Beaumont's info session a few years ago.  Feel free to message me if you have questions you don't want to post about.
