Update on my sons

Hi everyone,

I'm sitting in the hospital listening to both of the boys snore!  They are doing well and both are up and moving around quite a bit.

Chris has had a little set back.  He has not been able to pass the barium test yet.  He doesn't have a leak but the barium is going as far down as his pouch and then stopping.  It is just sitting in his pouch.  They have taken  him down every two hours to xray to see if it has moved and it's still sitting in his pouch. At five o'clock they did another xray and a small amount has moved into the intestines, but not as much as what they would liked to have seen.

Apparently this can be common and is caused by swelling.  They are hoping as the swelling goes down, the barium will pass through.  I'm thankful there are no leaks but I sure will feel better once he passes that test!  He may be here an extra day due to that.  We'll find out tomorrow.  They are going to xray him again around 10 pm tonight.

Anyone else have this happen to them??

Thanks for all the nice thoughts and prayers!

Nan

Edited to add:  They did the test at 10pm and still nothing, it is not moving!  I am getting worried.  They will do another one at 7 am tomorrow morning.  I asked the nurse what they would do and she said every doctor is different.  Some wait it out, others go back in and see what is causing the blockage.  Please keep Chris in your prayers.  I wish if there had to be complications it could have been on me instead of on one of my kids!  I am hoping for a good day tomorrow with positive results on this barium test!!

Nan,

I logged on to ask you when the boys were having surgery and I see they already have!  I'm glad the surgeries went well.

I did not have a problem like Chris is having, but  I can't think of a better place for him.  They can watch him closely and take care of any problems.

Take it easy, Mom.  Get some rest yourself.

Thanks Sandi!  I appreciate you thinking of the boys.  They are moving around good and getting up and out of bed okay, it's just this dang barium swallow test that's very frustrating.  I left the hospital after the 10:00 o'clock test and just wanted to cry.  I think Chris wanted to cry too.  I feel so bad for him.  I know it's just a set back, and I know they will get things working properly, but I can see the worry in his face and that makes me feel so bad for him.

I'll keep you posted on his 7:00 am test.  Once he passes this barium swallow test he can start having liquids.

Hey - how did you like that couponing class in Davison?  I've been curious if you liked it.

Thanks Mary!

They BOTH got to come home today!!!!  As soon as he passed the barium swallow test they started him on liquids and everything was staying down!!  So the surgeon said 'no need to keep you here any longer, you can go home with your brother' !  Yay!!!!!!!  The look on Chris's face when he said that was priceless.  He was so happy and you could actually see a sigh of relief!

Thanks for all the good thoughts :-)
