sclerotherapy today

Well, today is the day for my sclerotherapy procedure.  It is a procedure designed to shrink my stoma, so food stays in my pouch longer, thus giving me a sense of fullness for a longer period of time.  This is designed to help with weight loss, but more importantly to help maintain the weight I have already lost.

Good luck today. Let us know how it goes -- we expect a full report. :-)

Do they expect to have to do the procedure more than once? From what I've read it might take 3 or 4 treatments for the full effect.

I was home by lunch, but when the doctor said it was painful, he understated that.  6 hours later and I am still in pain.  I could hardley walk to the bathroom.  They gave me two morphine shots in the recovery area and I am on liquid vicodin.

My doctor does not think I will have to have it repeated.  My opening was 16mm wide and they like it to be between 12 and 15.  So he is pretty sure I will only need the one shot - Thank God for that.

He said I could eat a normal meal when I got home.  I had coco wheats for lunch. Not sure how that actually hit as I was on drugs.  Just tried a little chicken breast and 1/2 cup of mashed potatoes.  Got through the mashed pototoes ok, but the chicken - not a chance.  I am in more pain now than I was right after my gastic bypass or abdominal plasty.  Can't get a good deep breath.

I will keep you all posted on how this works.

 Hey Delores,

Sorry to hear you are having such a difficult time after your procedure. I stayed on soft, liquids after mine in an attempt to let the healing begin. You must have had lots of "pokes". Hope you feel better soon.

When did you have yours and how did it work for you.  I am really glad I took today off also.  I am still having some cramping.  Which I almost think is a bowell issue.  But when I stand my pain is really bad.

I have some errands to run later this afternoon, so I am trying just tylenol until I get back.

I had mine done  about 3 years ago(give or take). I didn't have any cramping- some nausea right after- I didn't have any real pain either- just some discomfort.  Was not ever given any type of pain meds.
Hopefully today is better for you..
