I am really wanting to get VSG done with a single incision.   I haven't talked to my doctor about it yet though to see if he can do it.     Has anyone got a single incision VSG here in Michigan?    I clicked on my doctors name and it says that he can do single incision bariatric surgery.....but I don't know if that is referring to the lap band which seems to be pretty common.    I do have an appointment on Dec 2.  I will ask then, but I was just wondering your thoughts?   or if you may of had it VSG done with just a single incision.

This is what it says under his training:

Name:  Single Incision Laparoscopic Surgery
Date:  October 2009
Training Covered:  Laparoscopy, Bariatric Surgery

I just don't know what it means.

I didn't know what single incision lap surgery was, so I googled it.

It seems that it's just lap surgery but with only 1 cut instead of 3 to 5 like I had. They seem to be promoting it as scarless as being the big selling point. But it doesn't seem like there are very many hospitals who are doing this type of surgery yet. If your surgeon offers it, definitely chat with him about it.

I had traditional lap surgery and had 4 incisions. The incision where my drain came out is the only one that I can even see and it mostly just looks like an acne scar on my belly... very tiny and just a little pucker in the skin. There was an incision in my belly button that I can't see of course and the other 2 I honestly can not find. In fact, at my 1 year follow up appointment when the PA was checking my incision sites, she couldn't find the other two either. They are completely gone.

I don't think I will be that lucky to have it disappear.    Anything I have ever had done has left a bad scar.   I can generally cover it with concealer (like my thyroid scar) but I think it's just the type of skin I have.....I don't know.   There are 2 doctors in the US that use the Spider technology.   But I am hearing of alot more surgeons who do a single incision VSG with some sort of other instrument.    Then other people are telling me it depends on your BMI and your doctors ability.   I tried to call my surgeon's office today and they are closed.   So, I will probably have to call on Monday.   I am willing to do whatever (even drive further) to get this procedure.
