Hello everyone.

I am just a few months out from my 4 anniversary of my Lap Band surgery. reluctantly it hasnt gone like I had planned. I did so well at the beginning, but as I write this I am just about back to my original weight. Early one I thought I'd like the lap band, but shortly afterwards realized it wasnt for me.

I am now thinking/researching another alternative so I can get back to the weight I wish for. Just a year after the surgery I was doing triathlons and a year ago I completed my first Ironman 70.3 triathlon, and loved it.

My present insurance doesnt cover BS, so I will need to add a different insurance, and hope they will approve it. Sounds like BC/BS would be my best choice.

Anyone have experience in redoing Lap Band surgery to another type?

Well looks like I will be back hanging out again, maybe I shouldnt have left.

Are thinking of buy an individual policy?  BCBSM individual policies do not cover weight loss surgery.

BCBSM 's individual policy is booty.

But, I would think BCBS is your best option (if it's a group plan)

It's not all glitter and rainbows.

Not to sound stupid, but do you mean by individual/group plan? Right now its open season for new insurance policies at my place of employment (federal govt). I'm guess this would constitute a group plan; however if I do purchase insurance I will only buy it for myself not the entire family.

Thanks

Sorry that the band isn't working for you.  You might want to try going to the Band Grads forum for some help while you are deciding what to do. Try the revision forum as well.

You must be doing something right, because I sure am impressed by your triathlon experience.

It seems like the sleeve is the thing to do after a band, and folks seem to do well in general with sleeve after band surgery.

Good luck!

You are in a "group".  So don't stress about that.  I'd definately ask for the different plans and check them out to see if they cover WLS.

and individual plan is for someone whose job doesnt offer insurance, or they don't work, or they don't qualify.
It's not all glitter and rainbows.

I have BCBS Empire Blue and got approved in less than a week. We have the same surgeon. He is going to revise me from the band to the sleeve!

I have the same surgeon and I am also looking to revise from the band to vsg.  I also have BCBS, but I believe each group for BCBS may cover differently.

Hey,
Not sure why I checked back in on this board -- it's probably been at least a year since I've been on here, but I'm glad I did.
So sorry to hear of your recent developments.  I remember meeting you at the Steelhead 2 years ago.  Hang in there man!  I've got nothing for the questions you asked, but send a message and get out there.  Easy for me to say, but you did lose the weight before and you were doing a ton of exercising.  Ease back into those things and keep working on your options!
