My WLS was in 2007 and I reached my goal of 158 I am 5'10 . i was in the last year diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis and taking Copaxone. I have a lot of cravings carbs, i can eat a ton of apples all day long any thing crunchy all this has sabotaged my diet emotional eating i need to lose the extra weight 25lbs. I weighed 265 now I am 170 so here I go again. I know that the med will put weigh on if I can get my emotional eating under control i can deal with the injections but I am adding to the problem. Also can your pouch stretch back to the original size?

My dietitian told me that magnesium helps to cure carb cravings.

she said to start out slow like 250 mg at night before bed. because it can make you poo!
then build up to 500 mg each day .5 in the am and .5 in the pm.

Hope it helps!

Mary - how is that working for you - magnesum?

I just went to my doctor and discussed the same thing.  He said the pouch will stretch to a point, but not so much that you will gain a lot of weight from it.  One of the problems may also be the stoma (opening where the food exits your stomach) stretches out.  This allows your food to leave the pouch quicker, thereofe you get hungry faster.  There is a procedure out there - sclerotherpy - that will close that opening back up.

As for the carbs - I would try to get off them altogether.  I did this - took two weeks doing low carb - basically meat, eggs, cheese and veggies.  I lost 6 lbs right in that two weeks.  I feel so much better - not as tired  and not snacking as much either.

you do realize that most RnY patients usually have a 10 to 20 lb gain after reaching goal.

they don't know why but it seems to be commom.
