Stress level at home

Hi all,

I was wondering how any of you handle stress at home after surgery.  Today is my 12th day postop.  I feel much better but am now realizing how much stress can affect how your tummy feels!    I have twin 9yr old girls and a husband who only does what he "has" to.  I was supposed to go back to work on the 15th but I'm not ready.  That adds to the stress by making my coworkers deal with that.  Any suggestions?

First and foremost, take care of you, you just had major surgery.  On top of that you are changing everything about how you eat and drink, your whole world as you know it has been turned upside down, give yourself time.  And just to let you know, if you feel a bit weepy or over emotional in the next few weeks that is pretty normal too, your body is dumping allot of estrogen with your fat right now and you can feel a bit discombobulated for the first few weeks post op.

As far as work, what do you do for a living?  I went back to work after 11 days, but I sit on my butt all day.  Today is a bit early to be making any decisions about how your going to feel next week.

Edie,

I am a certified pharmacy technician at a hospital.  I won't be able to go bac****il my restrictions are gone.  I want to but realize that I'm not able to do most of my job.  So, I'm staying home.  Kinda stinks to have all this time and not physically be able to do stuff!

I am a little more emotional but at the same time, I'm feeling like my old self if coming back.  Not that I have ever been skinny more than a month or so.  Just the part of me that used to make the important decisions, be independent, and stand up for myself.  Not a bad deal I think.

I guess I'm just concerned with the stress because I am afraid to screw up anything on the inside.  Hard to realize that when you tense up over stress, your tummy muscles hurt!

Thanks for the thoughts and suggestions!

Sheryl,

My daughter and her three children live with me, and I have been under stress since I came home from the hospital on Friday, November 12. I know how the stress makes the muscles in your stomach hurt. I also have a problem with my daughter whenever she makes something for her and the kids to eat, she will say, "sorry you cannot eat this too." The other day she made chocolate chip cookies and said to me, "to bad you cannot have a cookie to eat." I feel like I am in a battlefield of emotional bombardment.

Part of having this surgery is excepting the fact that others will indulge in those things we have chosen to do with out for a while. Yes not forever but just for a while. You will be able to have those things too. just a mater of time. And if it turns out your a sugar dumper then learn to make them with healthy choices. IE... Sugar free and low fat. Your taste buds will soon become accustom to better quality foods and than when you do try one of those treats you probably will be turned off by the taste of Hi fat Hi sugar foods. And no matter what your tummy is so tiny that a whole chocolate chip cookie would make your body feel as though you ate an entire box of cookies and 10 lbs of sugar and lard.

PS tell your daughter to take the kids for a walk and eat their cookies out of respect for you!
or give them fruit and cut up veggies to prevent them from becoming obese when they get old.

And a side note. CVS And Muscle Milk make a protein powder called Cookies n Cream
And bariatric Choice also make WLS friendly chocolate chip cookies too.
