Feeling Weepy
It is completely normal to go through a lot of emotions before surgery. I've typically heard it been called the "two week freak" so the fact that you're only 4 days away from surgery means that you've been overdue. Try to relax and do things to keep your mind off it. Spend some quality time with those who mean the most to you which will help you reinforce why you'd having this surgery. It is a big life changing event so it's normal to be anxious and a little afraid. You're human.
Wishing you only good things from here on out ... an uneventful surgery, a speedy recovery and good health!

Thank you, Linda. I tend to think that I am a strong will person, and forget that it is normal to feel weepy, with what I am facing. Having the surgery means a lot to me, and that the real challenge starts after surgery. I do not have much support at home and I do plan on using the board a lot when I get home from the hospital to ask a lot of questions.

I second guessed myself a million times the week before. I was very emotional and trying to get everything taken care of at work so I could be off without problems. It is very normal. Just remember all the reasons you are having this surgery to make your life better. At 4.5 months out I'm only now starting to realize that the weight really is coming off and is going to continue to drop and I have a smile on my face most days. I love to get dressed, since it is all smaller clothes! Life is great! I've had no complications, just the usual things you can expect to experience. You will be emotional for a couple weeks afterward as well, and may not want to eat or drink, but you have to.
Good luck with your surgery!
Good luck with your surgery!

Jean,
I have this pair of jeans that I have been keeping, hoping to lose enough weight to get into them some day. By having this surgery that will become more of a reality.
I have also, been second guessing myself. I always feel scared when I am put under, when I have surgery. I have a fear that I might not be able to get enought protein and my hair will fall out.

I did pretty well with getting my protein in each and every day after the first week and my hair is still falling out. I won't say it is coming out in handfulls, but there is a lot in the shower drain and it is all over the bathroom from blow drying my hair. Thank God I have a LOT of hair and it is not noticeable. My hairdresser could tell last time I was in. I think this is just inevitable because of the stress on your system of having the surgery and maybe it just isn't as bad as others because I have gotten the protein in. Anyway, I'm not trying to scare you or anything, I just had thought I would be exempt from this part. I think that getting through the surgery and the first week or two are the hardest, then you are all set and just concentrate on the lifestyle change and enjoy the numbers on the scale and the way the clothes fit.

Mary,
Oh so normal, in fact if you weren't worried, I'd be worried :). Ultimately you have to keep your eye on the prize. This is a life altering event, don't kid yourself, but oh so worth it!
As far as your hair, that is inevitable (at least it was for me), I took my biotin, was able to get in all my protein from day 1 and I still lost allot of it, made me cry like a baby at times, but now that I'm through it, well, it was a phase and I got though it, you will too. Ultimately, I'm down 105 lbs from my highest, no longer diabetic, hbp, gerd sufferer......can go for 2 mile walks through extremely hilly parks with my dogs and life is great! There will always be issues that we have to deal with (my labs are a bit off even though I've always been vigilant with my vitamins), but like everything else I'll deal and get it under control, and you will deal with all those hiccups too!
Good luck,
Edie
