Starting My Liquid Diet

Hi Everyone,

Time is getting closer for me to have my surgery (November 10). This Wednesday I start my two weeks liquid diet before having surgery. I am beginning to feel scared now, because the reality of having the surgery is coming true. I know that I will be OK during the surgery because God will be guiding the hands of the doctor preforming the surgery. Dr. Gluck seems to be a caring doctor and wants the best for his patients and he is well educated and knows what he is doing. All he ask from his patients is that they follow the steps of the diet plan before and after having surgery.

Sorry I have not been on here much, I have been taking classes online and been very busy. My classes end next Tuesday so I will have more time on the board. I know before and after my surgery I will need some support.

I just had my RNY at Borgess in Kalamazoo on Sept. 14, 2010.  The 2 week pre-op diet isn't hard to do if you keep reminding yourself what your end product goal is. YOU CAN DO IT! I lost about 16# during the 2 week pre-op diet.  The post op diet isn't even too bad.  I'm on solid food now and my tastes have all changed. it's amazing!  I've lost 50# since I've had surgery last month.  I need new clothes!

I usually check here everyday.  If you have any other questions or need other support, please do not hesitate to e-mail me!  Good luck in your journey!

Hi Karen,

Thanks for the encouragement. I will be using Carnation Sugar Free Breakfast for my two week pre-op diet and then switch to Bariatric Advantage Meal Replacement for my 3 week post-op liquid stage. I figured by using Bariatric Advantage Meal Replacement after my surgery,  would be easier for me to keep track my protein intake.

How did you feel after your surgery? Did you have any complications? My dietitian said that after having surgery most people do not like the smell of food.

I think it just great that you have lost so much weight. Keep up the great job you are doing.

Good luck to the both of you!   Just keep your eye on the prize and you will make it through the 2 week liquid diet!  It's not that bad if you set your mind to it.  I think I ended up losing 19 pounds during my 2 week pre op liquid diet!

Nan,
You look great I hope that I have the same results but its been a little slow for me.  I had the band done in April of this year and had my first fill done on Thursday.  I have lost about 45 lbs and have another 60lbs to go.  I have come to a stop with losing weight and that is why they adjusted the band.  Reading you message is a good inspiration to get up and start to get on the path again, I have been a little down every time I get on the scale and havent lost any weight for the week.  What type of meal replacement do you use, and what exercise do you do?  Hope you keep your eye on the prize as you stated and thanks for the opporuntiy to write you.

Not to sound to repetitive, but good luck to both of you!

The biggest reason to stay on track with the liquid diet is to shrink that liver, realizing that if my liver was to big I'd have a 5 in*****ision kept me on the straight and narrow.

Keep your eye on the prize!

I'm a November 10th too.

Dr Hendrick just has me on a low carb diet for right now, and then the 7 day liquid diet with ONLY clears the day before.

I'm so nervous and scared.  But we will all be great!  AND LOSERSSSSSSSSSSSS!  I can't wait to be a loser!  :)

Emily,

What time is your surgery on November 10Th? Mine is at noon on November 10Th.

When I went to see Dr. Gluck the first time my weight was 317 and when I seen him last week it was 314.5.

I am also nervous and scared, but I know that the Lord will be there right with me. I did my pre-admission screening today and on Friday, I will have lab work done.

Hang in there Emily! I will say a prayer for you.

Take Care,

Mary
