Has anyone here have their WLS at St. Mary's in Livonia/ Dr. Zeni? If so how was your experience with that?

My experience was and is first rate. The program is very through, questions are answered (and re-answered) completely and cheerfully. I was very prepared for the surgery and the following life style changes.

Dr. Zeni was very through in his work, spending extra time removing adhesions from a previous (unrelated) surgery to prevent any complications for me. He even spent time answering questions for a family member.

I had a medical emergency UNRELATED to my RNY and Dr. Zeni was concerned and helpful, visiting me in the hospital and helping the hospital staff integrate my care so as to protect my new internal arrangement while dealing with an unexpected heart problem.

Michigan Bariatric Institute worked hard to prepare me for surgery and for my wonderfully changed life. They have been responsive and thoroughly professional, as well as very friendly and supportive. I recommend them completely!

Drop me a note if you have any specific questions!

I have known many that has gone to Zeni. I've known many that have many problems after surgery. He did my surgery in 2007. Had to have 2 blood transfusion and became very very sick after surgery. It took me over a year to get healthy. And now I am in some form of pain and deal with alot of problems.

I now see a different doctor. I would NOT send anyone to him. My sister in law just has her surgery 2weeks ago through Henry ford. She is doing great.

Good luck in your search.

I see that you are from Ann Arbor.  Have you considered the University of Michigan program?  It is wonderful.  There are two surgeons who are both great and have been doing this for quite a while.  I like the program director who is the PA and the nutritionist.  Their support group meetings are good and very well attended.  Let me know if you want any details about their program.

Yes I thought about U of M's program, but from what I understand they only do the Band and RNY there and not the sleeve which is what I want.

They absolutely do sleeve.  The first surgery the day I had mine was a sleeve and it was done much faster than my RNY.  Now, their might be restrictions.  I've heard that insurance may only cover it for certain BMIs, like maybe > 50.  I suggest you go to their website and get the number to go to their information session and you can ask all your questions there about sleeve.  I have never heard anything bad about any of their doctors.  You can go to support group meetings and ask the post-ops about their experiences and they are quite open.
