Rough Journey

I had my surgery on tuesday. It was a really rough recovery time. It is the second time I had this anesthesiologist and the last time I came out of surgery vomitting.
They ended up cancelling my discharge on Thursday and I got home Friday night. I am having a hard time getting fluids in  I am so nauseated.
They wanted me to go back to the hospital today for dehydration. I told the PA I hadn't been home even 24hours. My urine was pale yellow and I wasn't dehydrated I asked to speak to Dr Foote.
Final decision was they called in Zofran and if I start vomiting I am to call them. On Monday they are calling in for me to have labs and go to the infusion center for hydration.

I am overwhelmed and sick

Erin,

I'm sorry this is such a rough time for you.   It can't be easy.

While you have to advocate for yourself, please remember that you may not be thinking objectively at this time.  I'm just trying to say, if in doubt....listen to your doctor.

I'm hoping you got some relief from the Zofran and are feeling better now.

Keeping you in my thoughts,

Sandi

Hi Sandy Thanks for responding. Yes the Sofran was the trick and I have been able to
get in fluids and am feeling much better.

I will take it one day at a time

Oh Erin, I wish that your struggle didn't bring back memories for me, but it does! Almost to a "T".  The Zofran was the key for me as well. I had to take it, let it sit for about a half hour and then start to drink my protein shakes and water. You're the only other person I've heard of having the same problem. Also, if you don't use it all, hang on to the Zofran. I still have days where my gag reflex is so pronounced that I take a dose of it to help get stuff down.

I wish you luck and know that others have been there too, including me. After all the vomiting, my sides hurt horribly and I couldn't get comfortable to sleep and I was just miserable. I remember wanting to die and asking my husband why I had chosen to do this to myself.

Hugs....
