Went to ER Wednesday Night!

Update from my last post on Wednesday.  I did end up going into the ER (U of M).  We got there around 9:30 Wednesday night and were there until 4:30 AM on Thursday.  They ran a bunch of labs pressed around and decided that I needed to be referred to a gastroenterologist.  They think that the blood was just from the food getting stuck and it irritated my esophagus.  But I am not totally convinced on that.

So I figured it would take a week or two to get into the GI doc, but I got a call on Thursday morning with an appointment on Friday afternoon!!!!  I saw the nicest doctor over at U of M.  She was very nice and extremely concerned with the fact that I threw up even just a little bit of blood.  She is suspecting either an ulcer or a bleeding ulcer and possibly a stricture since I have been food stuck more and more frequently.

She told me that she felt it was time for another scope (had one at Hurley about 3-1/2 years ago for an ulcer and a stricture).  Again I figured, well it's U of M so it will be a few weeks before I get an appointment.  NOPE wrong again... I have my appointment this Wednesday for my scope.  I have to go to Livonia for the procedure though because at the Ypsi office they do a very light sedation while at the Livonia location they put you in a deeper sedation.  I chose the deeper sedation so I am going out to Livonia.  It is about a 45 minute drive versus a 30 minute drive but well worth it for me.

I will update after I have my scope and we figure out what is actually going on.  In the meantime they have me taking Prilosec to help with the stomach pain that I am having and it helps a little bit.  I just hope it is nothing more than what they suspect and I can be treated with out any issues.

Thanks everyone!

LOL  YES....  well, they tried to give me an IV.... 12-15 times 4 nurses. They decided it wasnt possible they were jsut startign in my feet and I couldnt take it I started crying and told them
I was going home that I'd had enough. The surgeon came and talked to me, he was really sweet. He brough 2 nurses that HADNT poked me and they talked to me about having it done without sedation and what it would be like etc and then asked me if I would like to go do it.  I want my surgery SO SO SO badly that I decided to push away my fear and suffer it just to make them all stop poking me with needles for nothing.  It took me 2 full weeks to heal the bruises and I looked like a junkie. My hands and arms hurt so bad every time my childen touched them... :(  I am TERRIFIED about the IV part of this surgery because in my life IV's never really work out. :(  :(   The scope thing was...well... not what I expected. It was kind of terrible BUT I survived and it didnt take too long and then after I was able to just get up, get dressed and walk out and DRIVE myself home... *shrug* Once it was over it was fine.

they didn't use to use Novocain to freeze the vain prior to IV introduction.
I had the same issue when I had tubal done. so now I just tell don't use the Novocain.
less issues. but new nurses don't know about ancient methods. lol

I'm 2.5 yrs out and am having major GERD issues.  Never have had issues with food getting stuck or vomiting.  Now I am having bad chest pain, no associated sx of heart, no SOB, no nausea, just waves of incredible pain.  Seen primary care yesterday, started me on Carafate and Zantac 30mg.  Still having pain...think I'm going to have to see GI to check this out.  Probably will need scope to look at everything.  Haven't been very good at avoiding some foods...so this is obviously a slap in the face.
