 Hey Jennifer,

I am not attending but want you to remember that these events are highly motivational and great for people just beginning the journey. Be proud of yourself for attending and go out of the "shell'and introduce yoruself to some people while you are down there, I am sure you will find some life time friends to support you if and when you hae a "slump". You have already come so far in making a difference in your life- extend the trip.. Congrats and have fun..

Hope you had a good time Jen. I was there too and a few other Michiganders. I'm nearly 5 years out. It's nice touching base with folks from the forums here too whom you've possibly never met after years of "talking" with them.

A guy from PA whom I met briefly and would simply shout out a greeting to whenever I saw him over the weekend and whom I friended on facebook told me he's thinking about buying a bicycle and getting into biking. He claims I inspired him. Wow. Now that's a reason for someone years out to go. Totally humbled there.

Anyway, good times. Houston though is too damned far away and what nut job does SE TX in August? It was hot and muggy in Cincinnati but paradise compared to Houston.

Would be nice if they have another one in Detroit.

The Houston OH Conference is  Nov.5 and 6 . It will be nice weather and we are a Welcoming Group. I learn alot from the Conferences and meet many new friends. I invite all my friends from Michigan to attend. I live here in Houston the past 10 yr.s moved from Holland and love it here. Lots to see and do and good jobs so come check us out! Big an extra bag to collect freebies and New clothes at the Clothing Exchange. If you need more infornation send me a message through OH I'm happy to help.

Oh crap you're RIGHT It is in Nov! That's my son's birthday weekend which is why I'm not going. I agree too that Houston is an awesome city but then I love large cities and it's #4 in the US. Yeah the jobs are plentiful down there and they've got a lot of varied high tech/engineering ones too. I've heard folks complain about the traffic in Houston but it's not really any worse than anywhere else. Atlanta, now that city has some jacked up expressway layouts. At least Houston would have an excuse with the ocean being in the way.

Good suggestion to bring an extra bag(s). I'm going to be using some of the protein samples on my bicycle ride this week from East Lansing to Sault Ste Marie. Clothing Exchanges too are fantastic. I wish my surgeon's group had had that.

That's sweet that you're a transplant from Holland. I was born in Beaumont and live here now. Have a great conference!

I don't have much problem with the traffic here. I live near NASA and commute into the Medical Center 3 days a week at 5:30a and back at 8p. By then the traffic isn't heavy. It was hard to get used to Hurricaines  verses snowstorms.  Moving here has been literally life saving for me. A genetic heart condition was diagnoised and repaired here with an experimental procedure . Also was diagnoised with lymphedema and treated sucessfully. Just had RNY last Nov. and have lost almost 100 lb.s and lymphedema is under control no more hypertension  and osteoarthritis is so much better. We have great support groups here. I belong to 3 in person groups. I love living here everyone talks like me (honey, dear) and we do have Southern Gentleman. I get asked all the time if I'm from Minnesota or Wisconsin. SO I guess I will always say POP and Oh Yah .
