My husband had his surgery Wednesday and thankfully his doctor was able to do it laprascopically. He had some issues with his oxygen levels and not being able to urinate after the cath was removed so it had to go back in, so he had to stay an extra day. He was released today and has been up walking and we even went for a walk outside. He wasn't too hip on the protein powder mixed with crystal lite----said it tasted like how home depot smells. So tomorrow we will try a different kind of protein powder and see how that works.

Cher,

So glad his surgery turned out okay.  Now for the fun part... losing weight and keeping it off.

Glad to hear things went well.  One more day in the hosp. is not fun, but necessary sometimes.
Tell him to suck it up, he needs his protein, it was awful the first few weeks for me (and I've drank protein shakes for years) but it gets better.  BTW what does Home Depot smell like???

Good luck,

Edie

LOL Edie! I dont know about the Home Depot remark he made but Im gonna have him try  again today.  The hospital paperwork says he is supposed to  shower today, so I guess bandages will be coming off, I am just  nervouse about the  drain he has in still.

My husband had the surgery in October last year and I nursed him through it. He struggled but I snuck that protein in everywhere I could. We bought a tub of unflavored unjury and I did everything to make sure he got enough. I just had surgery Monday and had been using Nectar drinks (water based protein). Good Luck!
p.s. the big bandage comes off for the first shower and the steri-strips stay until they come off on their own.

I see you had Dr. Katz also! Thats who my did my hubby's surgery :)
Jim is using nectar protein right now also, once he can do skim milk I have unjury chocolate and unflavored (because that seems to be the only brand I can tolerate), so both of us can use it.

Suprisingly Jim didnt get  steri strips like I did, he has durabond and staples, and a drainage tube (something else I didnt have). He goes back to the doctor Friday to have everything taken out.

I really like the Odwalla brand chocolate protein shake but have really mostly been drinking Boost Glucose Control shakes. Those are pretty yummy.
My mother in law also had the durabond. Can you imagine, she had the proceedure done with only 2 incisions! How awesome is that! I have 6 incisions and am having trouble with one of them. The steri strip has come off some. I am seeing Dr. katz tomorrow for my follow up. Good luck to hubby getting everything out Friday! It will be here in no time at all. Im sure he will be glad to be extra parts-free !
All the best to you guys!!!

** How funny! I just saw too - my husband also had Dr. Schneider. I tried to get him but he retied and so my last appointment with Schneider, he told me he wouldnt be doing it so Katz was suggested. I have only seen Katz a few times but I guess he called the nurses a lot to follow up with my progress. Schneider was an awesome guy dont you think!
