Things for the Hospital
CHAPSTICK - I didn't pack it and really could've used it. I did pack a book and some magazines but didn't even turn 1 page. I also took my Ipod along and listened to that a little bit. When you get home you'll need enough protein drinks for 2 weeks (you pick that up at your 1 week pre-op appt with GHP).
Some type of slipper/shoe that you can just slip on for walking the hallways - I brought my crocs. I didn't bother with a robe - just wore 2 of the hospital gowns. Definitely lip balm. Also Gas-X strips to help with any gas you may get. A pillow to hold across your tummy on the way home. I went home the next day so I didn't bring shampoo or anything like that. I spent most of my time napping and when I wasn't napping I was trying to walk and when I wasn't walking I didn't feel like doing much of anything, not even reading. So maybe a magazine to page through, if you're up to it. And some comfy clothes to go home in - something slip-on, no zippers in the pants.
I'm a very sensitive sleeper so eye shields and ear plugs for me, and I would have cried if I didn't have my chapstick!

Since we have the same surgical office and here are a few things I wish I'd done as far as post-op food choices:
When you pick your "liquids" for after surgery make sure you choose a variety of things. Also, make sure that you add enough of the "soups" that you don't have a ton of sweet stuff (other than the soups it seems that everything else is sweet). I thought I chose a variety but because I only got one box of each of the boullions I'm finding that I have far too much sweet stuff and sweet is not what tastes good to me right now (my weakness has always been sweet but it sure isn't right now).
I didn't get the hot chocolate because I didn't think i'd want it, but I found that warm stuff goes down much easier and I had my husband go back and get me a box of the hot chocolate (as well as some more of the boullions)........I'm so glad he did! I REALLY recommend the hot chocolate!
The pudding/shake mixes can be a little thick and tough to get down at so I wouldn't recommend many of those in your choices (I'm mixing them with 10oz of water or more in order to make them drinkable right now). I can't recommend the vanilla or banana at all......they taste like chemical to me but of course everyone is different so you may like them.
