You can try

eating Pineapple chuncks they break down stuck food
or you can purchase Papaya tablets form gnc for about 3 buck a bottle and take three of them every few hours.

Or for fast relief just mix tablespoon of meat tendorizor into a  bout 2 oz's of water and swallow it.
it taste nasty but will get result fast\

if these things don't work call your surgeon.

Mary

HI MARY!!!!!!  :)
Long time no hear from (my bad ~ sorry)
I've missed ya!!

Thanks for the idea on Pineapple chunks!!  Never thought of that!!
I could just about take Johnny down ~ he ate our last can of pineapple about 3 days ago.  ARGGGG   I had bought that can to go with some fish, and he didn't know, so he opened it and ate it.  When there is other canned fruit I buy for him.  Oh well, I'm going out tomorrow to take Anna (the youngest) to the doctors, so I will stop and get a can while I'm out.  I'm going to get the stuff Nan told me about (the meat tenderizer recipe and also the papaya enzymes too!!)  Something HAS to work.  It is still stuck in my throat.

Do you know if the meat tenderizer thing will make me throw up or does it just dissolve the meat???  (don't want to throw up)

Oh, thank you for the congrats on the weight loss!!  Loving it!!
How are you doing with the weight loss?  I have been away far too long.  (hate dial up)

Thank you soooooo much for helping me out here.
Take care,
God Bless

You might want to call your surgeon
Stuck food usually dose not hang around for days. You could have a stricture. which could happen at any time. The stoma get real tight feeling like a stuck food. Are you drinking plenty of liquids, since your not eating.

I don't know about everyone else but something don't sound right to me

What is everyone else thinking????????????

On the stricture issue I doubt it, if she's able to get down protein shakes then she does have an opening, may not be as big as the piece of chicken, but a true stricture does not even allow water down.  Remember we are talking McDonalds chicken here....is it really even chicken LOL!

I was just thinking about a friend of mine who got sick and pain when ever she ate even small portions. she went on like that for about three months. When she went back to her surgeon they did the scope and opened her stoma and told her it was a mild stricture.

Just seems weird to have stuck food for so long.
To me
So I just wanted  to make her aware so she could be on the look out if it was.

I usually get stuck food and barf until it get out.
So I was just playing devils advocate. LOL

Better safe then sorry.

I agree totally, better safe than sorry.  Personally, I don't think of a stricture unless they are totally cut off.  That's life threatening.  But with Tari being still a newish post op and the fact that it was McD's, maybe that combo is what's taking her down.  I wish she'd just throw up, it would make her feel better, but  I understand, I don't like to throw up either.

Mary, you scared me!!  I don't want it to be a stricture.  Like Edie said, I am able to keep my protein drinks down.  I haven't thrown anything up.  It is still stuck there.  I can feel it.  We went to walmart, and I bought the Papaya Enzymes and I took 4 right away (at 6) then another 4 at 8PM, then at 10i****ook another 3.  It doesn't really seem to have done anything.  How long should it take?
While at Walmart, I bought a can of pineapple that I will eat when I get home (after we pick Johnny back up from work at midnight), then I think I will also do the meat tenderizer thingy.  Something HAS to work.
I am sooooooo hungry all of a sudden.  I did have a vanilla protein drink tonight and also I bought a protein shot while at Walmart, so I've had my protein.  I did manage to take a few SMALL bites of fish and I was able to swallow it, but now that I'm done with those few bites, as I sit and type this, I can still feel the chicken.

Do you think it is possible that I messed up my opening trying to get that big piece of chicken down?  I hope I didn't tear or mess up anything in my throat.

Edie, I know you want me to just throw it up, but I'm not one for sticking my finger down my throat.  Makes me nervous.    LOL
Is there anything out there that would make me throw up?  (something I could take)??  Not that I want to, mind you!!   But, if those 3 other methods don't work, I don't know what to do.

I'm just afraid I messed up my opening now that I think of it.

Thank you all for your help..........I'm still dealing with this!!  ARGGGG

For me when something is to big and stuck I get foamies, (it's like your mouth can't stop making spit), and I have pain and nausea.  Your not really talking like that so I'm not convinced you have something stuck.    I don't remember exactly when your surgery was but maybe your swelling is coming down and you can feel something you never felt before, boy that's grasping, but your symptoms don't make much sense either.  I'm curious did the fish go down? did you eat the pineapple...how's it doing?  If both of those went down you surely don't have a stricture.  Are you sure you didn't eat a marble???  Sorry sometimes we have to have humor, although I know your not laughing right now.

Anyways, something you can take to make yourself throw up is syrup of ipecac.  Is that the best thing for a gbs pt., I have no idea, you may want to call your surgeon on that one.

Here's hoping your get some relief today honey,

Keep us informed,

Edie

Hi Edie (and all),
Well, last night on the way home from picking up Johnny at work at midnight, I took 4 more of the papaya enzymes.  Didn't feel anything different.  When we got home, I ate some pineapple as Mary suggested, then I made up the meat tenderizer receipe and slowly sipped that down.  I felt a bit of a burn, but that was about it.  I slept ok.  Then, as of today, I have had one protein drink and some Coke Zero (someone told me to try that from the RNY board).  Nothing has changed.  It feels like there is a big gerby wadd (don't know how to say it), but like a bunch of flem stuck in my throat that when I swallow, soon after, there is a ball of flem like I want to hack it out by spitting.  It doesn't go away.
It is a different feeling now then when I first swallowed the chicken.  When it first happened, I could tell it was the chicken, now it is just flem stuff that just wont go away.    I'm confussed!!

Edie, I don't have any pain or nausea.  My surgery was March 3rd.  Would it have taken that long for swelling to go down?  But it happened that night I took that big bite of chicken and didn't chew it, so that is why I was saying it was stuck.??????
Yeah, the fish went down ok.  I haven't thrown anything up.  I did take really small bites of the fish and I chewed the heck out of it because I was so scared of swallowing.
I may just call Dr. Poplawski's office tomorrow and see what they say.  It IS mind boggling, isn't it.

Don't know, right now it just feels like a ball of flem sitting down in my throat that wont go down!!  ARGGGGGG

Just thought I'd let you all know where I'm at.
Thank you and God Bless,
