Introducing myself and welcoming suggestions.
After much thought (2 years worth), I've decided to go ahead and get the ball rolling on WLS. I went to Dr. Schrams orientation meeting a few weeks ago, from there I learned I need a psych eval. I have that scheduled for Aug. 4. Yesterday was a message from Dr. Schrams office concerning insurance ( BCBS), so I'll need to return that call on Tuesday (my only day off during the week).
The psychologist I'm scheduled with says she'll need 2 hours (eek!), I'm hoping alot of that is paperwork and the questionnaire I keep hearing about.
Starting (home scale) weight: 268, 5'8, wearing a size 24, sleep apnea, hypertension. I'm hoping for improvements.
I've been reading through so many posts here on OH, I'm really looking forward to getting to know many of you! The before and after pictures are especially inspiring, as well as the hurdles that you've overcome and tell about so that us coming up on this journey can learn from. I thank you!
Michelle
This is a great board, lot's of helpful friendly people, It's been kinda quiet around here lately though, so keep checking in. Maybe all you newbies that have come forward in the past week or so could get this board hopping again.
Again, welcome,
Edie

Welcome eris8! I am also a newbie here, within the last couple weeks.
I am in Kalamazoo Michigan, just looking forward to my first WLS Seminar with Dr. Verseman on Aug 2.
I have also been contemplating this surgery for a while now, but was never really sure about it. I feel that there are so many ppl around me that have had it done, but quite a few years ago.
Now that there has been more time to perfect the art of WLS, and after watching a girlfriend go through it in April, I felt it was time for me, I am now at my highest weight EVER! And I feel so ashamed! I am not comfortable to excersize and I want to be active with my 2 little boys 4 and 2 1/2.
I don't have many "friends" here yet, so feel free to add me if you like. I hope that this site is as usefull to you as it has already been for me. I am looking forward to hearing from you about your journey, and all of your success!
Which surgery are you contemplating? I am thinking of the RNY, the RNY message board is VERY helpful!!
If you really knew me, you'd see my heart is honest and pure, your painful words will push me forward on my journey and NOT knock me down! I will succeed this time, for I have the support of a 50 story building, and the love to last a thousand lifetimes! It's time for me to LOVE ME!
I would like to make you my friend so maybe we could talk to each other as we continue on this process.
I live in Battle Creek. I don't have a date for my surgery yet. I have seen the dietician but not the psychiatrist yet.
Welcome to the board Michelle.... All I know is once my ball started rolling and I had my psych eval everything just went from there and my surgery seemed to be DONE... it all happened really fast for me....
My eval was about 45 minutes of paperwork and rest was the talking to the doctor which actually seemed to just fly by... But we did have a 2 hour slot for the appointment... You will be surprised how fast it actually goes....
Best of luck to you and I hope all the balls fall into place for you quickly and you can be on the losers bench before you know it....

I am new to this as well. I live in Grand Rapids. Like you I have thought about WLS for several years. I have met with the doctor and need to meet with the behavorist tomorrow. My insurance no longer requires a psych testing. Then I meet with the surgeon next Tuesday. The only other thing I need is my blood work and a sleep study.
It is a future of promise and renew. It is no longer diet after diet. I am excited to start with the tools to learn how to eat properly.
I wish you all the best!!
Erin
I, too, researched WLS for about 10 years. I went back and forth. But, when the time is right, you will know. I had my surgery on March 3rd of this year and I am soooooo happy I did it. It was the right time.
Good luck to you on it going quick and smoothly for you (getting approved and a date).
Take care,
God Bless,

I am also new to this site, I have been on the main site for a few months but had no idea there was a Michigna site. This is great! I am alsmost 3 months out and feel fantastic.I was in a 26/28 pants and a 3x shirt now I can wear 18's and I even have a pair of large pants that fit and bought an extra large shirt today. I am sooo excited, I cant remember when I wore this size. I am so glad I had this surgery.
Erin...I also went to Doctor Foote and he is awesome. Im sure you will be just as happy as I was with everyone in his office. Good luck!
I would love to be your friend so we can chat with each other and support each other. This is going to be a LONG journey and it would be nice to have friend that are in the same boat that I am in.
