Hi Everyone,

After a year of research, soulsearching, and preparation I've decided I'm ready to deal with my weight issues and take the surgery plunge.  I'm interested in RNY.  I've been lurking on the general forums for a couple weeks and it's amazing and great to see how much support and information there is out there.  I was excited today to discover a MI forum.  Has anyone had success with Hurley in Flint or heard of Dr. Ringley in Saginaw?  My husband thinks Hurley is the way to go because of their experience.  I had signed up for an orientation in Saginaw with Dr. Ringley since several people I know have used him but.....sometimes you just want to see what others may know.  I qualify for surgery because of my BMI and I'm lucky enough to have insurance too.  I'm just looking for anything info. you have to share.  Thanks!

Welcome!

We have a few people here that have gone through Hurley.  I'm sure they'll be happy to give you their opinion.

I just wanted to pop in and say Welcome.

I am here to welcome you also.  Trust me, you won't regret your decission to have RNY.  I love that I did it and wish I had done it years sooner.  I went through Henry Ford in Detroit.  Talk to Pam Tremble, I'm sure she'll be able to give you some input.

Hello and welcome!!

Congratulations on making the decision to have RNY!  You will not regret it al all.  I had surgery in March 2009 and have lost 162 lbs total.  I had my surgery at Hurley and Dr. Kurt Kralovich was my surgeon.  He is awesome.  Since then, my daughter also had surgery (May of this year) and is down 40 lbs.  She also had Dr. Kralovich.  And my sons are geoing through the approval process right now.

I would highly recommend Hurley.  They have a have a great follow up program and for me it has been a great experience!

Good morning!

I live in Saginaw and had surgery in Flint at Hurley with Dr. Farhan.  If I had to choose between the two facilities I'd pick Hurley, hands down.  Saginaw's facility is just too new for my comfort level whereas Hurley is one of the pioneer facilities in Michigan and Dr. Farhan has been with the program since it's inception.  They are well established with an outstanding aftercare program.

There is a support group meeting tonight at Hurley (Monday, July 12th) at 5:30.  I'd love to have you attend so you can ask questions of the Vet's and get a feel for how the facility operates.  I attended support meetings for 13 months before my surgery and think it's the best thing I did to prepare myself.  I lead the peer-based support group in Bay City and we have a meeting this Wednesday - I'd love to have you attend!  (Send me a PM with your email address and I'll get you the details).

Feel free to ask whatever questions you might have.  We'll do what we can to help.

Pam

Many people go to more then one seminar before figureing out the best doctor for them.

Be sure and ask the complication rate/ death rate.

I am not trying to scare you but you want to make sure you have all the facts
