Grand Rapids Surgical Support Group

Good afternoon, everyone!

I just wanted to let all of you know about an existing Grand Rapids Surgical Support Group.

We are Little Victories Surgical Support; Grand Rapids. We are affiliated with GHP but our members consist patients from other area practices too.

I am the leader of the group. I am a GHP patient who had RNY on Jan 30, 2006. I have had just over a 200lb weight loss. I started this journey with diabetes, high blood pressure, sleep apnea and high cholesterol. Now 4 1/2 years later I am free of my co-morbidities. I am also an RN at Spectrum Health. In September I will be taking a nursing position on the bariatric unit at Spectrum. I am so excited about what my future holds.

I hope to be able to meet both of you ladies this coming Thursday. Our meeting time is at 6:30pm. Feel free to park in the small parking lot in front of the church. The handicap sites are just for Sunday services.

I usually have a topic driven discussion, though we are totally open to seeing what the needs of the group are, that night. For this month's meeting I want to discuss what it is that we have learned about ourselves, so far in this journey. I know for me I saw a woman emerge that I didn't even realize was in me.

There is always something to discover about ourselves, no matter what stage we are at. I'm hoping our discussion will help all of my group members to realize that.

I was wondering if you are the same gal I spoke to a couple years ago about getting Dr. Vincent DiNick back out to your group for a Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Seminar.  I was there with him when Julie was running the goup.  Do you think your group may be interested in having him come out?
