Milk allergy
I have a milk allergy. There I said it. Nothing to be ashamed of. Unfortunatley finding good protein sources that are quick like bars or yougurts, is very hard. I also do not do soy. I watched Food Inc. and I am very stubborn about this.
So I was wondering if any there are any other people who cant do milk based protein. I want to know what your doing to get your protein in.
Thanks a bunch and keep cool, it's gonna be another hot one here in Michigan.

I don't have a milk allergy, so I can't relate to that. Beans are an excellent source of protein. I grab a south beach protein bar when I need a quick source of protein - 8 gm. protein 140 calories, low sugar & carbs. A lot of protein powders can be mixed with liquids other than milk, and most of them are whey protein.
I don't do soy either because of thyroid medication.
You keep cool too, I'm ready for this heat wave to be over!

Done! Your Ticker:
There is egg protein powder also. Kinda expensive, but we gotta have that protein!
Also as far as quickie sources....boiled eggs, nuts, triscuts w/ PB, rolled up turkey slices w/ mustard, to go chicken or tuna salads (the kind in foil packets or cans w/ pop tops), stopping at Wendy's for chili or Taco Bell for re-fried beans....if I remember anything else I'll chime back in.
Good luck,
Edie

I have a milk allergy, too. That made it difficult in the beginning. I ended up not doing much by way of the protein supplements. I was able to get my protein in with food. Burger/beef was very easy for me, which is usually not the case for most WLS patients. When I needed the boost of protein, I would use soy powder in my protein shakes, but I tried not to rely on them. Not sure what I would've done had I not been able to tolerate beef/meat, early on. I guess I would've eaten A LOT more beans!
P.S. I should add that I did not know I had the milk allergy until a few months AFTER I had surgery, so I went through a lot of different whey based protein powders/drinks that always made me sick. Once the allergy was discovered, and I stopped using whey powder, I felt much better.

I am planning on RNY. My Insurance company requires 3 months of nuitrition and exersise prior to approval. My last appointment for the NUT is on the 14th of July. Than the count down begins. I at first was upset that this process was not going faster. However I have learned so much about myself, my triggers, how to eat without drinking water, how to sip water all day rather than guzzel it all down. How to make good food choices. I have really taken this time to prep. I have faced the fact that I love food and didnt know how to say stop once I started eating. I am glad now for this time before surgery. I am still amazed that I read how people still ask AFTER they have already had surgery what they should eat. I am going to be prepared with all the wonderful help on here.

Sounds like your doing it the right way. Over the years I have seen people 3 weeks out post on line that they are in pain because they ate 1/2 a bread stick! I feel like saying 'what the hell, are you an idiot, why did you have the surgery' (this was on a yahoo gp not OH). I know I was a bit anal post op ie: I didn't have a bite of a cracker until I was 6 months post op, again anal I know, but I really wanted to succeed.
So stick to the plan, protein first, sip, sip, sip, exercise and you will do great.
Good luck,
