Thinkin' Thursday
Well - this is a first for me starting this thread, so I thought today was a good day to do it!
Drinking my protein coffee and looking out the window - beautiful today! But its not going to be as warm as I'd like, but unless its 80+ it never is...
QOTD: When you travel (for work, pleasure, etc) how do you package up your protein and vitamins to take with you, especially if you're flying? Any special containers you use?
I have tried all kinds of things, but now pretty much resort to plastic sandwich bags for my vitamins (sort out how many I'll need for my trip then sort through them every morning) and a gallon bag for my protein. I also have used the "1 serving" size of protein, but found they take up as much room. I just went and bought from Toys R Us a formula holder that has 3 compartments (they make them with 4 too) that has a swivel top with a pour lid/spout, and each compartment holds 1 scoop exactly. I just got this so I haven't traveled with it yet, but think it will be handy to have along and easy to use. In the past I've made such a mess trying to get 1 scoop into my latte at Starbucks... with this I can juse pour it out.
Any other ideas?
Sitting at work watching everyone eat bagels. Blech :(
It looks like it is going to be muggy here today. I don't mind, that's what A/C was invented for!
QOTD-I am never gone long enough to need a protein supplement, so I don't have an answer for that. As for my 300 vites and minerals-I have a big weekly pill case I use and just keep everything in there. Makes it easier to remember what I've taken and what I still need to take.
Have a fabulous day!!!!!!!!
I made up a fresh batch of Kristy's Vanilla Caramel Protein Tea last night... so I enjoyed a hot cup of that this morning on the drive in to work. Now I'm sipping on some coffee and plowing through emails and such.
QOTD -- Vitamins are easy... I just throw my 7-day organizer in the bag and roll with it. (pics of my system) Protein... if I decide to take protein powder with me on a trip I just put a bunch in a tupperware container and throw that in my bag too. But nowadays I don't bother packing protein to take with me unless I know I'm going to have issues with finding enough food to get my needs met. I can easily get 100g protein a day without protein supplements, so I don't worry about packing stuff.

I am having my usual Walmart sugar free apple flavored mix. (Like Crystal Lite but half the cost and the Apple is a flavor Crystal Lite does not have).
QOTD Answer:
I do not travel often, except to the ranch and I always drive there so this is not an issue then. When I do fly, I put my pre-packaged shake mix bags and my flavor mixes into a large zip lock bag. I toss in packets of artificial sweeteners, a some packets of powdered cream substitutes and a few packets of sugar free hot chocolate mix. Then, even though I almost never drink tea, I too in a few tea bags to make it obvious to the TSA people that this is my drink mix sta****oss the zipped closed baggy into my carry-on. If they ask me about it, I tell them I am diabetic and not every place has sugar free drinks do I bring my own. Seems to work, they never have taken the stuff away.
Now if you want a really good story, you should have asked how I travel by air on hunting trips and off to shooting competitions. There is a legal way to check gun. (The TSA have special people to check them in and the guns get stored in a compartment on the planes where no one can get at them while the plane is in the air.) The fun part comes at check in where all the people are anxious, noisy, pushing and shoving, self packed in, like sardines, in line. As soon as you walk up, and following TSA procedures, open up the first gun case, everyone else in line gets real quite and they all back up.

Lesson learned - don't put lotion on hands before handling guns right before going to the airport...

having a liquid day today all protein drinks and water. no real reason just felt like I have been doing some grazing and wanted to make myself aware of how many time per day i snitch a little something from the kitchen.
QOTD: not a plane taker. to fearful of hi jackers. so i drive and most of the time I can get what I need at the local vitamin shoppe, gnc, drugstore, or wally world it worst comes to worst.
Have a blessed day.
P.S. I always have an emergency kit. Zip lock bag with a rtd, slimjim, cheese stick & a bottled water on hand some where in case I get in a jam.
I don't think I can buy Fiber One bars anymore...they are so good I ate two of them today! Target has this special where if you buy 5 Fiber One products you get a $5 gift card! And on the Fiber One cereal I bought, there were those sticky little coupons for $1 off a Fiber One product so it was a steal. I bought 2 boxes of cereal and 3 boxes of the chocolate granola type bars. They only have 90 calories each, but 2 in a day...I can see where I could go back to my old habits and sit and eat the whole box!
QOTD: I pack my vitamins in a ziplock bag when I travel by plane. I never have packed protien powder. I very seldom supplement with protien powder anymore since I hit the year mark. I do pretty good at getting the required protien in by food and I'd rather eat than drink.

I was happy to see your QOTD as I am just starting this journey and love eeryone's solutions. @Pam I loved your vitamin system. I have been having trouble remembering what I have taken each day as I look aat my tub of pills. Before I started this process I would only take an occasional tylenol. My how things have changed.
I would love to know how the formula storage caddy works for you, too, Jody. I have been using baggies for individual portions of protein powder for my pre-op liquid phase.
Thanks everyone for sharing!!
