Good Morning!

I had protein hot chocolate on my way into work this morning.

QOTD- My favorite spot is in Tennessee . . so I don't think that will work . . lol.
I think it will be hard to plan get a get together during the summer with every ones vacation plans but I may be wrong.  Frankenmuth would be a good place to eat and then go window shopping?

Enjoy the day!

I like Frankenmuth too.

but would like to make a reservation for a group that could dine and chat together, so we could mingle and get to know each other more.  Or some place with a group meeting room, with out   a bunch of noise and comotion, so we could hear and speak to each other.
Then we could brake off into what ever ativities we chose to participate in.

If we did Frankenmuth we could do Zenders but would need com firmed head counts so we could make reservation so we could all sit with each other as a group. Instead of  letting the chips fall where they may. And some being left out dangling.

Good Morning Everyone.

I was late getting to work today by 30 minutes, my husband teased me about the traffic on my way to work (I walk out of my bedroom into my office....LOL)  Too funny.  So I am just getting through my first cup o' joe.  Strong and black today.

QOTD: We have a lot of family get togethers just wherever but my favorite is when my late husbands family gets together every year the first weekend after memorial day and we all camp or stay in cabins at a place called Rustic Rafters.  They have room for tents, trailers, and they also have cabins for those of us that don't have anything else.  We eat all weekend in the pavillion, everyone brings all kinds of food, there is never a shortage of that.  The kids have a blast playing together, we have camp fires, more food, play yard games.  We just have a great time, the family consists of Mom and Dad's offspring of  7 children and their children and their children....get my drift.  We also take on anybody else and they become family also.  I just love family !

Good morning all

It's after noon already but since I only crawled out of bed a couple hours ago, still feels like morning. Got the day off today and I'm just about to head outside for a quick workout.

QOTD -- If the forum plans another meet-up, I'd want to make sure we are able to get a lot of people there for this one. Sure it was fine to have a meet up for 4 people last weekend, but we all traveled a really long way (all from the other side of the state?) and it would have been nice to see more people involved.  And if people have to travel a long way and stay a couple days, we need to have a better plan for what is going to happen and where to meet, etc. If it's a day-trip thing, then we need to plan accordingly with activities for the group as a whole.  Or if we're just going to meet for dinner somewhere and bowling (or whatever) afterward, that's fine too.

Also ... maybe we need to appoint one person to be our event organizer so all communication is consistent and centralized.  Someone who lives in the area where we meet would make sense and someone who is a natural organizer, of course.  (UhOh, did I just volunteer myself? Yikes!)

Like Kristy said .... summertime is probably not a good time for a meet up since everyone is booked solid with family stuff. So pushing another meet up until Fall makes sense.

Exactly Pam

I wished we would have had more people from the Holland/ Grand Rapids area show up and take part. Isn't that the whole point of moving the meet n greets around the state, so  that it would be fair for every one, and people who live far would not have to always travel long distances.
Even if we were the only ones that show up I have to say I had a great day and really enjoyed meeting and chatting with such great women. It was a pleasure!

I also agree we could have planned better. but when the post went out asking, who was attending and what activities everyone was wanting to attend. We didn't get too many responses.  Guess Next time we'll need to plan better. And are you sure you want to volunteer for cruse director? You have an awful lot on your plate.

I think Fall would be a good time for another meet n greet Unless someone wants to do something more local on their own in their areas.

It might be nice to have a more local meet up say for a picnic in a park, or a restaurant with a conference room for an hour or two. however to reserve a room like that we need confirmed attendees. If we could have a confirmation of the members attending I would gladly contribute to a rental free for a pavilion at at park. Say max of one hundred dollars. That way we could have an official meet up place for a get together.

I kind of thought that is what would happen with the campsite/ fire. Believe me I would of loved to hold up in a comfy Hotel room. too.

Have a good day!

Mary -

I wasn't complaining that more people didn't come to the meet up --- I guess my point is that I can understand why they DIDN'T come.  We did not have a specific organizer of the meeting and there were no planned activities beyond the 5k race and no specific meeting time and/or place set for those who wanted to just drop in and have lunch together. Announcements of the weekend were a bit haphazard - not specific at all, more like a copy/paste from a website - so I can understand why people might not have wanted to come. It wasn't exactly clear what we were doing, ya know.  In fact, even WE didn't know what we were doing until we got to Holland. We can't really just say "we're meeting at the Tulip Festival" and expect everyone to know what the actual plan is. The festival lasted 7 days and spread across an entire city - so yeah, I can understand why folks were hesitant to attend.

Plus I know a lot of people had other obligations that weekend so it turned out to not be a great time after all.  I've gotten a couple emails from folks, so I understand their reasonings.  But I'm hoping that next time we address those concerns and have a better turn out.  Personally... I say we let the "meet-n-greet" chatter rest for a while and we'll pick it up again after the summer.

Pam
I never said I was the cruise director, nor did I pretend to be. And IF you want to be the organizer then by all means have at it. I think that would be a wonderful thing.
And Cheryl and I tried to do group things with you and it seem to me that you had other ideas. So what did you expect to happen.  As for not having a Good time well Life is what you make of it.
And I had a fun time even if it didn't turn out the way we had thought that it would.

I posted and Cheryl posted www.obesityhelp.com/forums/MI/4164809/WEDS-HOLLAND-OR-BUST/
tying to get peoples input on exactly those subjects.
links to activities  to events were posted so members could chime in on what they would be interested in doing. SO WE COULD MAKE IT A GROUP EVENT!  We asked for input from those that lived in the area too!
We asked where people were staying if they had too have a place to stay.
in the beginning we even were asking for input of the date.
since the Tulip festival  weekends were either May1 or Mothers day weekend, the input was May1,2010. and sealed with the date of the 5k.
And It was you who suggested the Tulip Time 5k.  I, also, offered up my campsite and even made special arrangements with the campground so that we could all meet up there and plan a course of action too.

Here's my take on OH get-togethers:  They are difficult to organize because we all come from very different areas of the state.  I put together a get-together....once.  We went to an ice rink near Metro.  It was an open kinda thing.  Nothing to "regimented".  Meet at the rink at a certain time, skate for a while and then those that wanted could go eat.  No biggie.  When we got there, we found that the rink was closed to the public for the time frame we were going to be there.  It had been rented by a private party and that was not on their online calendar.  Luckily, not that many people came, but still, it was aggravating.  We went to the mall and I bought a cute pair of pink and white sneakers, so not a total loss!  LOL!

I would suggest that get-togethers not be too planned.  They should be pretty general, in nature.   Let's face it.  MOST of are strangers, even though we may "talk" online, we're still strangers.  I PERSONALLY don't like getting together with a bunch of strangers IF I HAVE TO COMMIT TO CERTAIN THINGS!  Things get awkward, I want an "out".  That's me.  The whole "Holland Trip" just didn't fit into my schedule this time.  I'm not against meeting up with others.  I just like things to be low-key, low pressure.

With all that being said, it's hard to please everyone.  If you try, we'll never have any get-togethers.

Knowing how I am, with what's been mentioned regarding a Frankenmuth trip, I would decline to go because while I think it would be fun and I could easily go to Birch Run for shopping, I wouldn't want to have to COMMIT to dinner at a certain place, certain time, etc.

I know most people are planners, to an extent.  I am not.  I like to go with the flow.  I just thought I'd put out a different perspective!!
