Where is everyone this fine sunny morning?  I've been away for a couple of weeks with my grandson in the hospital in Lansing.  He had group B strep and had to have IV antibiotics for 10 days, so I stayed at the hospital with my DIL and Josh.  He's home now and everything is back to normal.  Thank God.
I had a really tough time staying at the hospital and making good food choices.  I definitely overloaded on carbs.  Wednesday I'm going to start the 5 day pouch test to get myself back on track.  Lastnight I caved and ate a brownie.  Not a huge piece like I would have done before WLS, but a small piece.  Nonetheless, it was a brownie, and I need to stay away from that stuff.  Next time I get the urge I've vowed to drink a glass of water first and wait 15 minutes, hopefully the craving will have passed and I'll have won the battle.
Hope everyone has a great day.  I'm hoping to catch up with what's been going on while I've been away.
Make the best of this sunny day.

Good morning Jan!

I'm glad to hear everything is back to normal with Josh!  I'm sure your son & DIL appreciated having you there!

I can relatie to eating too many carbs.  During quarter close they bring in food for 2 weeks straight.  Snacky type foods all the time (crackers, chips, pretzels, sweets, etc) and then they bring in lunches and dinners.  I eat so much more than I normally do in those 2 weeks just because it's here.

Have a great day everyone!

Tomorrow is day one of the 5 day pouch test, or my restart to healthy eating again.  I'm really needing to talk myself into it again.  Two days of liquids...ugh.

You're right.  I did miss the announcement.  Last thing I knew you were waiting for the appeal to be approved.  I know you've all got to be just sooo excited.  Especially your daughter.  I'll keep you all in my prayers.  You've done so well, I'm sure you'll be a great rolemodel for her.  Below goal, way to go girlfriend!  Things really moved along quickly once the approval went thru eh?  Is she on OH yet?  We'll gladly welcome her to the Michigan Forum.

Jan- yes, she did make a profile here on OH (and she's a friend if you look on my profile - KatieAsch10 is her username).  But I don't think she ever gets on here. I am going to try and encourage her to get on these forums and read, read, read.  She goes for her nutrion class Thursday and her PAT's next Wednesday.  I am so excited for her!

Hi Jan!  Glad to hear all's well with your grandson - those can be scarey times.

I'm also "getting back on track".  My scale went UP for the past week+ and now its time to get my behind back in gear.  I'm de-carbing, lots of water, lots of protein.  Scale was down 3 today - so I got some of my water weight off!  Now 3+ more to get to my lowest weight again.  Need to nip it in the bud before it becomes a bigger problem.

I was having pouch issus - where I was getting these stabbing feelings of hunger, so I'd eat.  I was grazing all day long at work, making bad choices etc.  Yesterday morning I was wondering if I should take an antacid.. so I took one of my prescription Prevacids.  Yesterday I didn't have that feeling at ALL.  Today the same way.  So I think I mistook hunger feelings for acid/irritated feelings... does that make sense?

I didn't miss snacking at all last night and didn't feel compelled to browse the cupboards and fridge.  I also cut out all alcohol.. so that may have helped too..

Welcome back Jani!  Glad things are better now.

I have been busy this morning so haven't had time to post.  Yes, the sun is shining but I hope it warms up also.  Saturday we are supposed to take a bike ride to Vermontville for their maplefest.  We went there last year and it was cold and rainy, we were lucky and the rain really didn't hit until we were in a small town north of here and our lead person got us to a restaurant/ bar just before it let loose.  We had fun but were very glad to get home pretty much dry.  Loved getting the maple syrup (real stuff), we gave it out to all of our kids and didn't keep much for ourselves since we don't eat many pancakes, waffles, or french toast, unless the grandkids are around !

Have a great day everyone.

Good Evening! Does your Son and DIL live in Lansing? I was at Ingham for my surgery until Friday but you guys were probibly at Sparrow. This was my first experience at Ingham usually I have always used Sparrow. I'm ordering some protien powder tonight online I'm barely getting in protien right now only about 25 grams i'm 1 week post op. I'm just eating carbmaster yogurt and some cream soups mostly yogurt though. I've added unflavored protien to the soups to boost them. I can't wait I have a dr appt next Thursday and hopefully they will move me to stage 3 which means I can have tuna that will really help my protien levels. Plus i'm ordering some Click hopefully that helps too. I'm not a fan of protien drinks cold I can get some carnation instant breakfast until it gets here.

No, my son and DIL live in Durand.  The Dr. in Owosso sent them to Sparrow.  I was pretty impressed with the care my grandson got there.
You definitely need to get more protein in.  Not only does it help with healing, it keeps you going!  Mix up a protein drink and just sip at it.  I make mine with milk so it's got a little more protein from the milk and calories.  If you carry the 8oz glass of protein with you and sip at it, it won't taste so bad for you.  You may even find you'll develope a taste for it.  I actually enjoy my vanilla protein that I get at Walmart (by Body Fortress) especially when I mix it into a fruit smoothie, and it's 26 grams of protein in one scoop.
Congratulations on taking the step toward a new healthy life.  You'll love your results!
