Does anyone have a favorite food journal that they use? I need to start doing a food journal.  I did a search on it and there is quite a few to pick from. Was just wondering which ones are easy to use.

Thanks
Cheryl

there is a food and an exercise journal on this OH site under Health tracker on the left.

It was not available when I started so I don't know how good it is , I was already using www.sparkpeople.com  it is like weigh****chers but free. Since I have been using it  I just stuck with it.

there are a lot of people here that like www.fitday.com too.

I've used FitDay for about 3.5 years now.  Love it.  Super easy!  And the database is moderated by FitDay staff and only they can enter foods --- it's not populated by other users like DailyPlate and LiveStrong.  So less chance of errors, typos and misinformation.  However, with FitDay you can enter your own custom foods and it stays in your own personal account.

My Recipe Index is packed full of yumminess!

I've used Fitday for years now.  Very user friendly.  I do have to say in the beginning it's pretty time consuming making personal food set ups, ie: home made stew, soup...., but once it's in it's easy peasy.  I don't agree with their exercise calories expended, like everything else it's calculated on a 150 lb woman, which I'm not, so I adjust that.

Thanks Edie, I tried the Fitday last night. I'm not sure if I'm doing it right or not. As I put my protein/coffee drink in. And its not coming up with the same number that says on my protein container label. I can't believe that there would be that much difference by just adding black coffee.

Fitday                                         my container says
Cals       112                                        105
Fat          2.5  g                                     0.3 g
Carbs    13.7                                       1 g
Prot         8.7 g                                     28g

So I have to be doing something wrong. :o(

Will try to work on it again today.

That's why I do allot of "personalized" food.  My guess would be that fitday has a less "pure" protein than your using, or yours is whey and there's is soy....there are allot of different proteins.

What I did in the beginning is took a Saturday afternoon and filled my kitchen table with labels of the food I use most...let's say my protein shake, it's usually always the same, so I calculated what 3/4 c of silk lite chocolate milk, 1 scoop of protein powder and 1/2 c of frozen blueberries would be, I figured out the cals., protein, fat, carbs......and called it "protein shake".  I then did the same for my stew, soup, nachos....I'm a creature of habit, I always make stuff the same way, except the meat, so for my stew I have 2 stews in there, one called Laura's stew (Laura's lean beef) and the other called Costco's stew.  Is it perfect no, but it's really close.

Play with it, take time making it yours, then it's really easy.

I did just go sign up and post today in there.  It shows me eating 300+ calories too much.  It has me lacking in iron, pant. acid, potassium, sodium and fiber.  I am eating 1/2 carbs!  I didn't realize what a carb was I guess.  I didn't know f/v were carbs duh me!  No wonder I am struggling here.  When I try to take out some of my carbs it shows me lacking in something else.  If some one ever wants to help me let me know.

Give us an example of what you eat in a day.  BTW what's f/v?  Also do you have a nut up there, that you can see?

I'm sure some people here can come up with some good web sites or books for yo to read, if you don't get many responses from this tread start your own so people see your question.

Good luck,

Edie
