Congratulations to both of you!!  I know what you mean...I'm 35 and often think, "If only I would have been able to do this at 24...things would've been so different for me." But then again, would I really have wanted to change much?  My kids are my world and would never change a thing about that part of my life or my honey Jason either. I think I would've benefitted from having more confidence/self-esteem though and would've avoided a lot of hurt!  That's so great that she is approved right around the time her adult life is really beginning!!  YAY!!

Thanks!   Hey I say your post....I'd be glad to be your friend but I don't live in the UP - LOL !  I just wanted to say hi and welcome to the Michigan board!

Is your surgery scheduled already?

Thanks Nan!

No...I have a lot to do yet! :)  My PCP has sent the surgeon's office the referral and I've spoken to the insurance company which said I meet the criteria and for my PCP to fax them a request for surgery along with his office notes. Luckily they recently changed the criteria where you no longer need to have a 6 consecutive month diet with your PCP, only one comorbidity and a BMI over 35 and you qualify...even though my BMI is 41 and I have at least 3 comorbidities!  :(  Hopefully that will change soon!  So I really am just beginning. Hoping it all goes fast from here!

Wow, you are very lucky you don't have to do the 6 mo supervised diet!  That's the longest part of the whole process, really.  Once I was approved by my insurnace, which it sounds like you will be once your stuff is faxed in, it was a matter of 4 1/2 weeks til I had my surgery!  And my surgeon requires a 2 week liquid diet so that was why it was pushed out that far.  Some surgeons don't require that.

I hope everything goes smoothly for you!

Wow seriously??  That's awesome!  I was HOPING I could get the surgery by summertime!  Well I do know that I have to do a New Patient Education Day, 3 nutritionist visits, a multidisiplinary day (blood work, etc), and psych visit before they schedule the surgery. Not sure how fast all that can be done, but it's gotta be at least a few months, wouldn't you think?  I guess I find out whenever they finally call to schedule an appt for the initial visit...just wish that would be soon! :)
