3 wks out - question on weight loss

Hi everyone - I've been trying to be patient and not post this question but I'm about at my wits end.  My surgery was 3/16.  In the first week and a half  I went from 266 to 250 which was awesome.  For the last ten days I have not lost anything; as a matter of fact I have put on 1.4 pounds in the last two days!
In the beginning I was barely eating 500 calories a day.  I've tried to bump up my calories the last few days to about 700.   I'm making sure I get in my water and protein.  I've also stepped up my walking recently, doing over 2 miles the last two days.  My typical meals are a protein shake, weight control oatmeal, some cheese, some jello, and then maybe some soup or something like that.
Any ideas as to when or how I might break this stall?  Thanks in advance for your help.

I am so sorry to hear you are struggling already!!! It sounds like you are doing everything right, I think our bodies just kind of freak out over the sudden change and hang on for dear life for a while. I am impressed with your calories. I am only getting 300 or so in a day so far.
I say just keep doing the right things and the numbers will move. I would hide your scale for a week or so, stress can't be helping any......one more thought.....the increaased exercise means an increase int he amt of ater in your muscles. That will account for some of the trouble. It will level out in tiem if you keep it up. Hang in there!!!!

Cindy - first off I wanted to say you are doing GREAT!!  If you have lost 16 lbs in the first week and a half!!  And you are also getting in your protein and water!!!  When I was early out it took me months, like 6 months, before I was actaully getting in all my protein and taking my vitamins like I should.  I still struggle with my water intake, so you are doing GREAT!!

You will probably hear from others too, but it is very typical to stall at 3 weeks out.  Most people do as your body is just recovering from having major surgery.  I stalled for about 10 days when I hit the 3 week mark!  As frustrating as it is, I promise the scale will start moving again.   Just keep following your plan and keep up the good work.  I know it's frustrating getting on the scale and not seeing the numbers go down, but you are losing I'm sure, it's just not reflecting on the scale!  I'm not one to talk because I was a slave to the scale but try and stay off it for a few days.

Hang in there, it will start moving again!!

I don't think I'd worry too much just yet.  I am 3 months out and I have good weeks and bad weeks.  I find that the weight evens out eventually.

Sounds like you're doing the right things.  Make sure to keep eating protein, drinking lots of water, taking your supplements as your doctor said and excersising.  If you're not already, try to eat several times a day and only about 1/2 cup at a time.

sorry your having a catch up stall That is what I call it when my body decides enough is enough
Just keep doing what you have been doing your on the right track.

make sure your taking your vitamins.
too.

also when was your last BM could be you need some miralax to help

weigh yourself in the am when you first get out of bed after you void. then forget about it.

if your really worried increase your exercise and journal your food.
sound like your not getting enough food.
and Soup is a no no.  try things like Greek yogurt, re-fried beans w/ cheese and Wendy's chili
and remember do not drink while you eat, things that will stick in your tommy for a while.
soup is like drinking when you eat flushes the nutrients right down the drain.

some times you just need to let your body do its thing.
good luck

Thanks everyone for the words of encouragement - it means a lot to me to know that I'm not doing something wacky!

I have been journaling my water, protein, and lately calories to make sure I'm getting everything in.  I've also been taking miralax the last 3 days or so to help "get things moving".

I'm not gonna look at the scale again until Saturday.
Once again - thanks so much for all of your input.

I have had these start and stop days of losing weight even though I think I'm doing what I should.  I decided not to worry about it.  I figure I'll have a prune face soon enough. haha

Seriously though, my nutritionist said you have to be eating at least 900 to 1100 calories per day to lose weight.

Hang in there.  You'll be fine.

Don't worry. I did not lose anything my first 2 weeks out of surgery, I was so worried because on top of not losing I had gained water weight from the IV. The stress of not losing will cause you to not lose (I know it sounds funny, but that is how I explain it to myself). Just relax and stay off the scale. The best feeling will be when you go in for your next post op and see the numbers! It is like a huge surprise. Make sure also you are watching your salt intake! could cause you to retain water if you are taking in too much.

Cindy,
You are doing everything right. I dont see anything wrong with what you say you are doing. Just know that the scale will eventially move. Right now the scale is not your friend, don't embrace it. When it wants to play nice again then you can befriend it.
Just know the rules, know you are doing everything correctly and soon the scale will reflect that

good things take time Cindy...your body is really going through alot of re ajustment and it is probably in a little flux right now. Once the homostasisis(balance) in your body is reestablished you probably will start loosing alot...I speak from no personal experience (since I'm a week behind you)....just medically . But whens the last time u lost 16 lbs.???that is awesome. God bless
