Pam, Help -- Diarrhea
My Nut. told me to take magnesium supplements start with 400 mcgs a day try to take 200 in the a.m and 200 in the pm. Try to take more in the pm then the am cause it will help with the am eliminations.
The first couple of days I took any I woke up at about 3 am and was planted on the commode. I definitely helps with eliminations. LOL
Now I have a regular BM every morning, since I am use to it It is no so devastation like the 3 am morning.

Oh man... I'm a whole day late on this. Sorry for not paying attention.
Ok, diarrhea is NOT normal after RNY. In fact, just the opposite is normal... we usually battle extreme constipation. Have you talked to your PCP about it? Just to make sure you're not dealing with a virus or intestinal bug of some sort? If not, it might be worth a call to see if they can run some tests.
So some questions... (and I haven't read the rest of the thread/responses, so maybe this was already covered):
1 -- is there a pattern? is the diarrhea worse after certain foods (like milk or dairy products? or fat?) how many times a day? and does it correspond with meals or protein shakes or water intake?
2 -- what's a typical day's menu look like?
3 -- how much fiber are you getting per day? how much water? Fiber works both ways -- it helps constipation and it helps diarrhea. I personall shoot for 25-30g fiber per day with 64oz water.
4 -- was there a time when you had normal BM's? Or has this been going on since surgery?

Thanks for finally getting back to me Pam I've tried the benefiber and it seems to be helping. I tried blaming it on one food, but couldn't pin point it. I think it might be the regular coffee. I only drink one cup a day, in the morning with protein in it, but I wouldn't think that would affect me the entire day and into the night. Last night I didn't get up at all to go and this morning I was firmer than I've been in a couple of months. I actually think it's my fiber intake, or lack thereof. I'm going to keep up with the benefiber and see what it does. I did send an e-mail to my nut to see what she thought, but haven't heard back from her.
Loved your blog on Ron's presentation. I know when I would diet and feel the hunger pangs, I would imagine a pack man eating awy at my fat cells. It worked for while.
