Hello!  I was wondering if anyone has any experience with Ford Hourly insurance and wls.  I am looking to get RNY.  Just wondered how long the insurance approval took.

You will need to contact your insurance company and ask for the criteria for weight loss surgery coverage. have them send it to you in writing.
You can also look in your insurance benefits hand book sent to you by the insurance company with the policy.

I know that WLS is covered for Ford hourly employees. It depends on your BMI. You may want to contact your UAW insurance rep. For  more information.
I Know of a women who had Blue Cross and another who has HAP insurances and they were covered.
You will need a referral from your Health-care provider,if you have HMO.

Your always welcome at the MI forum. I would also suggest that you try the OH forum too because of the Anthem state differences in Insurance providers.

Good Luck on your Journey.

I have posted on Ohio site.  Limited responses.  I already know the requirements but was wondering how long for approval.  Thanks though!

I have HAP. My primary care Doctor Submitted everything, My Ins required me to go for a Phsyc eval. then the Phsyc. sent them the docs for the eval and I was approved a day or so later. they called with an approval number and said I could make the appointment at the Bariatric Department.
I started with my primary care Dr. in January of 2009, I had my eval. in March09, then orientations was June of 09, I had first apt with Surgeon in Aug 09 the second apt. was Sept 09, after doing the required test blood work chest X-ray and EKG, (that is what my surgeon required). I was scheduled for surgery for Feb 2,10 it was are scheduled to Dec 7,10, Then again to 11/29/09.

so it took a good 8 months from the beginning to the end.
Start with a referral by your primary care doctor to have WLS.
And then they will tell you what test or evals you need for approval.

but every Ins is different.
I went to a surgery group that took  a long time to get through the process but They are very good and  this helped me to learn and research so I knew an know the rules and what to do if, this or that happens.
