New and Need Input
Hello!
I am new to the board and can use some advice/ideas from anyone!!
I am approved and have schedule gastric bypass on May 4 2010 with Dr.Schram at the Barix clinic in Ypsilanti MI......
All the staff has been very helpfull but some pre and post surgury do's and donts from actual patients would be super helpful. Especially anyone who was at Barix!! Also a "buddy" or two with dates around the same as mine would be wonderful.
Thanks in advance to all!!

Congratulations on your surgery date! The best advice right now is to follow the directions from your surgeon leading up to your WLS. This forum will provide you with lots of helpful advice along the way and especially after, when you're wondering if what you're going through is "normal."
I read lots before my surgery about how you shouldn't load up too much on protein mixes and powders because your taste will change after surgery. I wished I had listened more to that, because 6 weeks after surgery - I cannot tolerate any protein mixes/powders. I over-prepared before surgery and didn't allow for my changing stomach and my changing tastes. Oh well - I'm hoping my pouch will become friends again with protein powders - because I have a lot of it!
Start some exercise now, even just walking around the block, so that your heart and lungs are in good shape for surgery. Remember that it may take you 2-3 weeks to regain your energy after surgery, so allow for that and prepare ahead of time - especially if you have a family and need to make sure they're eating, even if you're not!
I look forward to hearing from you again!

Congratulations on getting your date set! You're going to embark on quite the journey but you'll have our support the whole way!
Schram was my surgeon in December and I think he and his staff give great information beforehand. The most important post surgery advice is sip-sip-sip and walk-walk-walk!

HI Jennifer.
I had my by-pass on March 1, 2010 with Dr. Schram at Forset Hill in Ypisilanti too. Dr Schram is GREAT!! I am cery excited with my life changes.
If I can answer any questions I would be happy to do so. I am new to this as well, but I am lucky because my husband has by-pass two years ago so if I have question I ask him, or talk to the staff at FH.
Talk to you soon.
