Barix Hospital Stay Questions
I am having surgery in the morning. I had the lap band back in November 2007, the patient ward appears to be on a different floor now. What is that area like? How was the patient to nurse ratio? Did they get better beds? Or are they still glorified camp pads?
If you had RNY did you have a catheter? How long was your stay? Are you happy with your care?
My main issue with getting the surgery isn't the surgery itself. I completely trust Dr.Poplawski, he is highly competent and has a great bedside manner. Even though a revision can be tricky, I am good with all that.
Its the aftercare that was so impossibly horrible that I am dreading it. Trying to be positive. But if my nurse is not being helpful or advocating for me if the pain is bad (I am allergic to dilaudid and morphine) I am going to call the on call service my own self.
I hate that visitors have to go home at 8! Leaving me alone to fend for myself sucks.
I think its my years as a birth doula, attending births at hospitals, you just need someone with you to navigate the hospital when you are impaired.
I have my patient bill of rights. I know I can change my nurse, I don't want to waste my time there haggling with unpleasant people.
Nurses by nature are caring giving people, then there is the rare nurse Wretched that God, as some joke or to allow me to contend with ass monkeys with patience, sends my way.
Ok, that felt better. I think I just needed to get that out. Hahaha!
Onward upward!

The ass monkeys were few, Thank God. Did you have Ian? Ian was very busy that day and it transferred to me not getting pain meds. I was unable to have the pain pump, my pain medication was a shot in the rump every 3-4 hours, if a nurse was not on it I was one hurtin Mama!
I went home a day early. If I am going to be in pain, I am going to be in pain in my own home.
We brought doughnuts for the staff on the first day. I loved the super good nurses I had, the help aides were also good.
Anyone who feeds you an ice chip when you are soo hot and thirsty is aces in my book.
Now I have strep throat and thrush, like baby thru****s not pretty in my mouth.
I can't knock down this temperature which is the worst around this time at night. Its been up to 102, if it gets there tonight I will be calling.
One week down, soon I will be eating pureed deviled eggs. Man that sounds perfect!
