Does anyone know if gastric bypass surgery has an adverse effect on your kidneys?

TIA,

Robin-  I'm so sorry about your kidney stone.  I hear they are very painful.  Hope all is well now.

Yes, I have heard that too.  I don't know what's really going on with me.

I had a blood test yesterday and my doctor called today and said my kidney function was abnormal.  She wants me to make an appointment with a kidney specialist.  Actually it was her nurse who called so I really didn't ask too many questions.

I am just so sick of doctors!

I hve not hurd that
but I do know that if you have to much protein you can get Kidney stones.

You may want to call Annette tomorrow.

Are you drinking enough water. and  those vitamins will do funny things to your pee too.

I hope all is alright.

I honestly have no idea.  But as I recall a high protein diet can leat to your kidneys being a bit pissed off.  Does you Dr. realize you've had GBS???

Hope that's not your prob.

A couple weeks after my surgery I saw my pcp who did a  urine dip and my protein level was  very high. So every week since  then I have had to drop off a urine specimen and the protein is  high but  starting to decline somewhat. I also did a urine cytology, a creatine clearance and a 24 urine. The cytology showed no cancer cells, the creatine clearance was normal  the 24 hour urine showed protein and some crystals. My doctor told me to push more fluids and I have to retest when I lose another 15 lbs...................since I have never had a problem before he is attributing this to WLS, and said it is  actually quite common after.

You might want to read my response to the OP.  Yes, high protein levels in urine tests are normal after WLS.  I explain it in my other post... but just wanted to make sure you saw it.

Cher,

Let me know how you do with this.  I'm going to go ahead and make an appointment with the specialist and see what they say.

Thanks,  Sandi
