How to file complaint against Barix internist?

I am having a revision from lap band to RNY on 3/10. So I had the pre op testing today and everyone is nice, just like the last time I went through the pre op testing, 2007.

All done being poked and prodded this woman comes in and says "WHY DIDN"T THE BAND WORK?" She was real crazy insistent on this as if I had that medical knowledge handy or knew why the band didn't work. After I said that I didn't know how to answer that question. She starts in on my weight.

Now let me get this straight. You see morbidly obese patients all day and you immediately start telling them their weight and going on about it? She thought it was FUNNY that I started at 219.2 and today I am around the same weight.

FUNNY.

It only gets worse from there. I don't believe I was dealing with an actual human being.

When I asked the nurse who came to discharge me how to spell the name of the internist, which is like Vantynab or some such, she said, 'just put the internist'. How she said it made me think that I am not the first one to have issues with her.

She also refused to listen to my pain issues. With the lap band I was not properly treated for pain in the hospital (insurance insisted I stay overnight). I explained to this woman that I had knee surgery in June and I was very allergic to dilaudid. She said that they would be putting it in my pain pump! Not two minutes before did I explain that I was allergic to it.

I explained that my knee/shoulder surgeon thought I might be allergic to morphine.

Besides the absolute nastiness, there is a real concern about being given medications that I am allergic to.

I see Dr.Poplawski when he does my endoscope on the 3rd, I hope to talk to him before the procedure so he can change whatever orders.

My God! And I am at the low end of this, makes me sick to think how she is treating other people!

If we were in the jungle, her skull would be my soup bowl. Grrr.

Basic human decency, kindness, compassion.

If I didn't like Dr.Poplawski so much I would switch hospitals asap!

You should speak to your doctor about this person.  She obviously is working in the wrong field, to be treating you that way.  Maybe she had a horrible day herself, who knows . . . but she is a professional and needs to show you the proper respect and compassion.  What a jerk!

Thank you for the response, I definitely will. I just heard that I need to contact the medical director and the medical director is... Dr.Poplawski, my surgeon.

He and I have been through it with my band, he has held me as I cried at the ongoing failure. I have come to understand that alot of people are getting revisions, that the lap band just does not work.

When we met to discuss a revision he wanted me to try, just one more time with the band because this surgery is BIG.

I like to give good reviews! I love great service and I love people.

This woman, wow. What a piece of work.

We gotta be advocates for ourselves. Maybe she is used to pushing people around and hitting them where she knows it hurts. I can speak medicalese! I also know the oath that she swore when she got that M.D.

And finally, I know that we are all human beings, hopefully put here to help each other, she is not God, she is not even great, this woman was subpar.

Just send him an anomimous link to your post.
Once he sees the bad press he will fix her attitude.

The last thing we need is errogance instead of compassion.

Good lucj on your journey

Interesting.  I've heard either people love her or hate her.  I liked her.  She was very nice to me and complimentary, but then I was in for PS, and my surgery was being performed by her husband...

I saw little reason to like this person, her holier then thou attitude and lack of compassion were an instant turn off. I will be sure to take my PS to someone else, none of those people are getting any of my dollars. Thanks for the info!

Real Good Doctor: My daughter fell face first and her 3 top teeth went through her CHIN. A dentist we had never seen before, got her in immediately, he and his entire staff introduced themselves and showed nothing but care and concern. This gentleman also offers his services absolutely free one day each year. I was just listening to our home voicemail messages and he personally called to see how our daughter is doing.

And you know, if she demonstrated competence I wouldn't of been so determined to give Dr.Poplawski a hand written (and typed) letter about my experience with her. However, after over and over getting my serious allergies wrong, I fear for others who are being put by the ringer by this person.

Do not give me morphine! Do not give me diliadid! Maybe I should just write that on my forehead prior to surgery!

To File a complaint with Barix, contact the medical director. Easily googled. Or any hospital where you are getting care. We have rights and responsibilities as patients.

The medical director is Dr. Pop.  Call Barix and talk to Tracy Harris is Head Nurse, she will take good care of you.  She took care of my issues with another Dr. a couple years ago.

Hope all goes well
