I just met with Dr. White on Friday and had my EKG and went over my medical history.

She gave me a sheet with 14 things I need checked w/my labs.  Does this mean 14 viles of blood? Geez..I hope not..

Also, she didn't mention anything about me getting a sleep apnea test.  Isn't this required of everyone?

With my preop testing, they drew about 5-6 vials of blood for all the lab work.  I didn't have sleep apnea screening because I had no symptoms/history.   I made the personal decision to followup with my cardiologist for presurgical clearance, but this wasn't required by my surgeon either - I  just did it for my own peace of mind due to a history of arrhythmia.

Good luck with your testing!

Hi Dawn
I also had a boat load of blood drawn, 13 tubes to be exact. Make sure you bring some orange juice with you to drink after your blood draw.  If you don't have any sleep apnea symptom's more than likely you wont have to be tested for that--- I know I didn't have to have that done.

Grand Health Partners does require a lot of bloodwork testing.  It's for your own safety.  When I have yearly blood drawn, they usually take 9 vials of blood.    They won't test for sleep apnea unless you have had sleep issues.

Dr. Kemmeter and his staff are excellent and I am happy for you that you have chosen him for your surgeon.  He has a fan page on Facebook, Dr. Paul R. Kemmeter - Bariatric Surgeon.   He has a lot of good input on his page.

Good luck on your wt loss journey.  You are in good hands with GHP!

Make sure you hydrate well before getting your blood drawn.  I had 16 vials taken and thought my veins were swelling up because it took so long.  The second time I had it done I made sure to drink TONS of fluid the day before so there was plenty of blood volume.

I LOVE Dr. Kemmeter.  He's a great guy, very thorough and is your best advocate for success.  Best of luck to you!

Thanks everyone!

I'll definitely take your suggestion and drink lots of water.  I HATE having my blood drawn.   I'm going to have to go to my happy place in my mind to get through all those vials they'll need..lol

I can't remember how many vials of blood I had drawn, but it seems to be a lot. They only stick you once, though. I drink a lot of water anyway, so I don't notice it.

I got a sleep apnea test and I thought everyone did, but maybe it's because I have fibromyalgia, and fibro sufferers tend to have sleep apnea. I wound up having mild apnea and actually still do even after weight loss ... but it's because of my anatomy. Go figure.

My insurer insisted on a cardio stress test, which the docs there didn't, so I had to have that done, too. Ask about it before you have to wait longer.

i had same tests it wasnt that many some are combined but yes it took a few vials. i dont think sleep test are required unless u have history in which case i think u would probably have had the test already.it really comforted me how thorough grand health partners has been on testing and follow up.BETH
