QOTD: At first I was not going to tell my co workers because they are all gossips. Then my mom started to call me Star Jones, which was offensive. So I decided to tell anybody who asked how I was loosing so much weight. Now I am the talk of the town (my work place). They ask all sorts of questions and most have been nice and supportive and every one gives me compliments. I have only ran into one person who was rude and thought it was "extreme" and she could never do "that". I smiled and told her it was better than the alternative, death, and walked out of the room. I can me quit the knee slayer when I want to be. After that she started to be nice to me. A day late and a dollar short on that one.
Sorry you had to deal with the attitude from Sandy and Bob. I'd just chalk it up to ignorance and let them wallow in their own little world of dillusionment. Being an ambassador and eductating folks about what WLS is really all about is the best way to go, I think.
While I was making my decision to have surgery or not I kept things to myself. My mom had surgery 4.5 years before me and kept hounding me to do it too -- even when back then I vowed to never do it. So when it was my time to seriously consider it, I kept that process secret from her because I didn't want her to sway me one way or the other. I wanted to make the decision myself for my own reasons, not her's or anyone else's. Once I'd decided, then I told her. But otherwise I have not had many run-ins with people who talked down about the surgery - a few, but nothing major. When someone would say something negative, I took it as an opportunity to teach rather than letting it get to me as an insult.

Let it Snow . . Let it Snow . . .
QOTD- I do tell people if they ask, and I have told people when they comment on how little I eat. Sometimes good comes out of it. I was with some friends at dinner on Saturday night and a girl I didn't know was sitting next to me when she commented on my small portion and she told me she had lap band and was really struggling . . she is now interested in coming to our local support group meetings. My family and friends have been very supportive even after 4 years because I still get sick a lot . . about 5 times a week.
Take - care,
Kristy
I know, my cousin Bob and Sandy asked me point blank, and since I don't lie I said yes, knowing full well they'd look down on it, but they didn't say anything nasty, it was attitude. Like Pam said, I'm not going to let it insult me, I'm just going to move on. I guess what goes around will come around eventually.
Pam Eilf gave me the name of a bariatric surgeon that she had at Barix and has since moved to TC. I called the office to see if he'd take me on for followup care. I haven't heard back from the office yet, but I don't really want to drive down state just for my one year followup. I'd like to establish someone up here.
