I disagree with the NO gum chewing beliefs.  My surgeon did not restrict it.  I also drink with a straw, as that was not prohibited, either.

I don't understand why people say that gum chewing or using a straw cause you to take in more air.  I mean, if you are able to before surgery, why not after?  I don't use a straw all the time, but my teeth are very sensitive to cold and if I'm drinking cold water or something, I generally use a straw.  I don't chew a lot of gum, but I've never given it a second thought after surgery.  I suppose very early out, it wouldn't be a good idea just because of all the OTHER stuff going on in there, you certainly wouldn't want to add the accidental swallowing of gum to the mix.  Besides, I would assume that gum breaks down just like anything else in our system.  And if I did accidentally swallow it, I, personally, would drink HOT water...as hot as I can stand.  That's just me, though and I'm sure I'm not a "model" WLS patient....nor did I ever want to be for anyone else's purposes.

I've never been a real paczki lover, however, when I had one from Hamtramck I thought I had died and gone to heaven.  The ones you get at the grocery store just aren't the same.  The polish really know how to make them.  I can honestly say I don't miss them today.  I would probably love a cider mill donut or a crispy creme tho.  I haven't tried donuts since WLS.  Maybe I would dump on them.  The pie I tried didn't leave me feeling too well, but I don't consider that dumping.  I think I'm ok with sugars, but like Brenda said, it could be the combination of fat and sugar.  I was raised catholic, but have since changed.  I don't give up anything for lent, but do do soul searching during these 40 days.  Like Suzanne said, to maybe change something within myself.
Well, I tried to make today my first day of detox, but I've failed.  I had protein hot cocoa for b-fast, dried apples for my snack, and then a tuna sandwich.  Can't seem to get away from those carbs.  I have some great cheese/onion bread that hubby bought at the Bay Bakery in town and it's sooo good toasted!  Thus, the toasted tuna sandwich.  For dinner it'll be another protein shake to make sure I get in all my proteins.  Maybe some more dried apples for another snack.  I need to get to the grocery store and buy some apples.  I love dehydrating apples, they're so good as a snack.
We're supposed to get 6-7" of snow in the next day or so.

The symptoms of dumping syndrome include nausea, abdominal cramps, diarrhea, dizzy spells,

weakness and cold sweats either with or after eating. The symptoms are often divided into

“early" symptoms which begin during or right after a meal. These include nausea, vomiting,

bloating, cramping, diarrhea, dizziness, and fatigue. Late dumping symptoms occurs 1-3 hours

after eating and include hypoglycemia, weakness, sweating, and dizziness. People with dumping

syndrome often have both types of symptoms.

I know that it can be hard to decide if it is or not because there are so many combinations of the symptoms. LOL

but I am learning
I now know the difference between stuck food and dumping is for me.

I know what stuck food is too, because 90% of the time I end up throwing up and then feel better immediately.
Sure hope this weather clears by May!  Have you registered for the walk yet?

I just registered.  If I hadn't waited, it would have been $5 cheaper, but after 2-4-10 it went up $5.00.  It's 27.50 to register on-line.
