Pre-op Diet for Lap Band with Dr. Kevin Krause Royal oak, mi and expected weight loss from it
Hi I was wondering if any one could tell me what the pre op diet is like for the lap-band I Have my appointment to meet with the surg. Dr. Kevin Krause March 3 and I have to start my post op diet then and wonder what it is like also another concern I have is that my current BMI is 42 with doing the pre-op diet I am sure you lose weight and I have BCBS of Michigan and I have to have a BMI of 40 for them to pay for it does anyone know how this will affect me will I still be able to get it done and have the insurance pay for it if any one can help me out thanks
I feel bad you've not had any replies to your question. I didn't have the lap-band but a friend of mine did, and didn't have to be on any restrictive diet pre op. In fact we went out to eat together the night before surgery and she ate everything she thought she'd never be able to eat again. I don't know how Dr. Krause works tho.
Here's hoping one or two of Dr. Krause's patients will reply to you. Sorry I couldn't be of much help, but I didn't want you to think we were ignoring you!

Hey I don't have that dr but maybe I can help... the reason for the pre op diet is to lose enough weight to shrink your liver down which makes it easier to preform surgery and less risky plus any less abdominal fat is easier for surgery. My pre op diet is 2 weeks of nothing but protien shakes 3X a day. They said people are expected to lose 12-20 lbs (my dr lost 12 lbs and she's a very thin women to begin with when she tried the 2 week diet and she cheated). I do believe they go off your beginning BMI before trying to lose weight from what I've heard.
