What insurance did you guys have that covered the VSG?  I'm curious to know what was the criteria for approval?

I have HAP insurance.  I was offered lap band or RNY.  I chose RNY better fit for me.

Right now Hap only covers lap band or RNY.  I had thought about researching DS or VSG but when I found out Hap didn't cover it I went with RNY and am VERY happy.
It is what it is.

I have BCBS and it apparently only covers VSG if your BMI is over 50.  So I'm doing RNY - which I probably would have done anyways.

I have BCN as well, but my BMI isn't at 50, so I don't know what my plan is going to be...I've already gone through all the requirements of HFH, I'm just waiting on my consultation with Dr. Carlin.  I really want the VSG, so I guess I'll get to writing letters to BCN to try to get them to cover it for me!!

What is your BMI?  Would it be worth it to gain some weight to reach 50?  I saw a surgeon that suggested that to me since I wanted it SO badly.  BUT I would've had to gain 50 lbs..and that just wasn't logical.  I have BCN and was told no way was it covered UNLESS BMI 50<.    My BMI is 42.5.

I am going to get RNY and feel confident with that decision - I feel I need the malabsorption to help me get this weight off.

My BMI is 41. So I wouldn't want to have to gain more weight in order to have the surgery that I want. So if they deny me, I guess I'll have to figure something else out.

Oh gosh, no - that would be too much to have to gain.  Well, the surgeon I am seeing now said that maybe they would start covering it this year.......I hope so for those that want it.  I'll cross my fingers for you -  good luck!!!!!!

I hope so!  But until then... I'm big on letter writting, so everybody at BCN will receive a letter from me until they approve me for what I want, lol!
