PATS question

Hi to all my MI friends!!
Well, my PATS are coming up the 22nd of Feb. and I've been researching what all goes on that day.
I've read that they do blood tests and test your blood oxygen level.  I haven't had a sleep study ~ it wasn't brought up that I should.  Well, I have seen where they don't pass the PATS for you and require you to get a sleep study done.  I have read where they want like 200 recorded sleep hours then go back for PATS and try to get passed again.
I'm worried now I wont pass my PATS and that they will tell me I need to get a sleep study done.
I was really excited thinking I just went in and did the pre op tests to get ready for surgery.  I didn't know I might not pass the PATS!

Any input on this???
Did this happen to any of you???

Thanks for helping me out here,
TTFN

What are your PATS? I've not heard of this term or anything your talking about. I'm done with all my pre op testing and I should have my consult date as of tomorrow. then surgery scheduled.

Tari,

My PAT's at Hurley were not a problem at all.  They did the pulmonary test, lung x-rays, blood tests, EKG and urine test.  I think that's it.  I did not have to have a sleep apnea test.

Good Luck !

PATS stand for Pre Admission Testing at Barix.  That is the step I have to do right before surgery.  It's where I get my blood drawn, I think an EKG and other stuff.  I have to pass this stuff at the Clinic before they will do my RNY.

I just had my preadmission testing at St. John Oakland Hospital last week and they did not require a sleep study if you did not  have an established diagnosis or known symptoms of sleep apnea.  I don't know if your particular hospital/center requires, but this is what was required for me.

It's funny how even surgeons in the SAME office have different procedures.. I go to the same office as you, Linda, and I did have to get a sleep study!  lol.  Linda, did you get checked for H Pylori?

It's not anything that's earth shattering.  Just a bunch of tests (blood drawn, xrays, peeing in a cup, breathing in a tube, etc.) and a bunch of waiting between tests and waiting for test results.  Usually you'll also talk to a MD who will review your entire file -- all medical history, all medications, all pre-op tests, etc.  Your meds might get changed at this point to accomodate the surgical needs (change to liquid or chewable, for instance).

Bring a book to read... there's a lot of sitting around doing nothing.

By the way... a sleep study isn't usually part of the PATS day.  That's usally part of the pre-op testing and appointments that lead up to your approval for surgery.
