Life Insurance x-post

I just found out I was not approved for a new life insurance policy. The reasons given are loosing weight too quickly from RNY and depression. I lost 160 pounds since last April and weigh 230 currently. Still obese, but off diabetes meds, blood pressure meds and cholesterol meds. the depression part is something that has been going on for the last 5 or 6 years.

Is anyone here in Michigan aware of a company that will work with bariatric patients?

Is it something that can be appealed?

Check AAA, I had a friend who worked for them and he once mentined they took WLS patients.  That was a few years ago so call and see.  Congrads on your weight loss

Try State Farm.  I read somewhere that they covered us. Also try USAA insurance.  They said you had to be 1 year out then they would cover. You are almost to that year mark.  Congrats on the loss.

You can only use USAA if you are active/inactive military or if you were a customer with them while you were serivce. We have USAA auto insurance since my husband was a marine and they are the most wonderful company to ever work with.

You can only have auto insurance if you were military.  Life insurance is open to anybody.  I never had auto there but I can get life after one year.  I had a long chat with the rep on the phone.

Yes - I wanted to get a new life insurance policy before I turned 50 last year and was told because I had WLS that I was a high risk and my rates would never be at the optimum level.  I also was told to wait for 1 year after surgery - and was if you lose  more than 20 lbs during the year you are high risk - WTH?  I checked my premiums as to what they would have been if I hadn't lost weight and they were double what my current went is - amazing...

So needless to say, I didn't get a policy.  I am still covered through work but wanted an additional policy "just in case"...

Good luck and look into thse places that were suggested - I may be doing that too.

I have Monumental Life but I've had it long before I had my WLS.  You might try them.
