Preadmission Testing - Check!
Just got back from my preadmission testing at St. John Oakland Hospital. It took about 2 hours. They did a thorough history, weigh-in, EKG, lots of blood work and a urine sample. A nurse practitioner came in and did a lilttle physical exam, then the anesthesiologist came in and asked me some questions, listened to my lungs. After that, they sent me on my way for a chest x-ray, then I was out the door!
I got a little bit of a scare, though, because the nurse saw that my meds included a transdermal estrogen patch. I have written this down all along, but no one ever said I should stop using it prior to surgery. This nurse, however, said it could cause clotting problems so she suggested I call my doctor's office to ask if I should stop it.
When I did call (as soon as I got home!!), the nurse there said Yes, I should have stopped it already, usually they ask patients to stop it one month prior to surgery! She said she would call my doctor to see if he wanted to postpone my surgery, since it's only two weeks ago. POSTPONE MY SURGERY! AHHHHHHH!!!!
Thankfully, my doctor said that two weeks without the patch would be good enough, so my surgery date is good to go. Bit of a scare, though!
So, one more box checked off on the road to my surgery, and I'm getting very very excited!
