New and waiting for approval
My insurance paperwork is being submitted tomorrow. I am very excited but not a good waiter so this will be hard for me. I have been stalking the boards for a while but haven't posted. I am looking forward to all the wisdom I am get from all you nice people. A little about me .. I am 25 and I live in Port Huron. I am getting my sleeve through st john weight loss at Oakland hospital. So now I am sitting and waiting.. and waiting from what I have heard.
Hello, welcome and congratulations! I am having my surgery through the same office, scheduled for February 9 by Dr. Schneider. My insurance paperwork was submitted on a Thursday and I literally got word the next day - but I don't think that is very typical, I was just very very lucky. I'm like you - I don't do well with waiting, I just fill the time worrying!! So I hope you get your approval quickly and can move forward.
Congralulations on beginning your journey! I look forward to seeing you again in the forum.

it was odd because I had to gain 5 pounds to get the sleeve. So my BMI would be over 50. They said that people that weight don't often get disapproved so I am crossing my fingers. Let me know how the hospital is. I was wondering if you get private rooms or have to be in with someone else. I know there is a problem with gas after and let me tell you if they put me in with someone else.. I will have problems lol.. thanks for the support
I know what you mean - I had to pad a few pounds to make the BMI also, first time in my life I tried to gain weight! And I didn't even enjoy it! : (
I will let you know about the private rooms...... I have my preadmission testing on Friday and then my presurgical meeting at the surgeon's office next Friday, so along the way I will ask someone.
I have read on this forum that someone brought their own Gas-X strips to use after surgery and it really helped a lot with gas, so I'm thinking of tucking those in my overnight bag!

Hey, wanted to let you know that I was at St. John Oakland today for my preadmission testing and I asked the bariatric nurse there about private rooms. She says that the WLS patients always get either a private room or put into a double room by themselves. She says it is very very rare to have to share a room. She said the only time she can remember is when sisters came in for the surgery togehter or husband & wife. So that's good! I knew you were wondering about this, too, so I wanted to give you that info.
My mom stayed with me after mine, and they were fine with it.
When she kept asking the nurse if it was ok, she said not to worry about it, they wouldn't put anyone else in the room with me unless it was absolutely necessary.
It was really nice not having anyone else there. I had a really bad bout of nausea and chest pain from the gas. I was moving around the room yelling at everyone like a crazy person and vomiting purple popcicle. I'm so glad a stranger wasn't there to see that ;)
