I'm worried
Sunday we went to brunch. I didn't go hog wild, but I did go wild. I knew I was limited, so I decided to just go with the prime rib. I got one slice of prime rib, but it was pretty large...probably 3/4 - 1 inch thick, medium rare. I would guess 10 oz if not more. I decided to eat it until I got 'the feeling' and then pass it on to Gary. Well I never got 'the feeling' All of a sudden it was gone, down the hatch, into my pouch. No problems at all. What have I done? Why did it all go down? How could it? It never came back up. I've been stewing about this for two days now. I didn't eat anything for the rest of the day, but it all went down at once!
MY BAD....
Now what?

This has happened to e a few times. After it happened to me a few times, I finally realized what it was that was not giving me that full feeling. Everyime it happened, I was eating out. It occured to me that I was drinking with my meal and that I was washing the food out of my pouch. When I travel on busness, I eat out alot, and I usually eat out with a group of people, so I always have a glass of water in front of me. If the water is there, I drink it without even giving it a second thought and before I know it, I am a member of the clean plate club.
Please dont let this get you down. It is a minor issue on a yet otherwise terrific journey..

I will make an effort to eat smaller portions, and not tempt myself with fluids. Thanks for making the light go off for me.

Jan,
You are doing awesome with your weight loss so don't beat yourself up over this one. At least you are thinking about it and making plans not to repeat it :-) I was also going to add to Rob's comment that I notice when I'm eating out I tend to eat more because the food is right in front of me and I spend a longer amount of time out to dinner than I normally take to eat a meal. That causes me to eat more than normal too. and I nitice at work when I eat lunch sometimes if I don't pay attention to eating my meal within 15-20 minutes and it stretches out over 45 min to an hour, I can eat a lot more.

Do you normally have the full feeling? Or was this your first experiment with trying to achieve it? You're what... 6-7 months out? So it's conceivable that you still won't have full sensation in your pouch yet. The nerves that were cut during surgery take a long time to heal - anywhere from 3 months to 18 months. Your pouch may not fully be communicating with your brain yet. So you likely overate with the prime rib but your pouch never told you since it's not able to.
This is the exact reason it's so essential that we weigh and measure our food in the first year or two after surgery. It's simply too easy to over eat.
Now what? Now nothing. You've learned your lesson. The lesson that you CAN eat more than you thought you could and now you have to use your will and mental power to keep your servings within the rules and guidelines that have been set for you. Just like those of us who don't dump on sugar (:: raises hand :::) it's no longer the surgery that keeps me from eating sugar, it's my mental decision to avoid it and follow the rules of single digit sugar grams. Same goes with 10oz slabs of beef.
