RECIPE: Kristy's Vanilla Caramel Protein Tea

My dear friend Kristy hates my Protein Chai Tea. I forgive her. She's awesome and wonderful and amazing... how could I be mad at her for not liking my tea?  Instead of just sitting back and hating on my tea, she invented her own version.  She called me the other day to share the recipe.  OMG!  You guys, this stuff is awesome!  So I crunched the numbers and wanted to share the recipe with ya'll too.

It's essentially the same concept as the Protein Chai Tea -- you make up a big batch of the dry mix, then just use one serving at a time to mix up your protein drink either hot or cold.  (I prefer hot, thankyouverymuch.)

Kristy's Vanilla Caramel Protein Tea
Makes 8 servings

1.5 cup  -- Dry Powdered Milk
1.5 cup -- Vanilla protein powder (I use Body Fortress, this is equal to 6 scoops)
1/2 cup -- Splenda (optional - I think next batch I'm going to only use 1/4c)
3/4 cup -- Unsweet Instant Decaf Tea (I use this)
1/2 cup -- Coffee Mate Sugar Free Vanilla Caramel coffee creamer (looks like this)
2 T -- cinnamon

Combine all ingredients together and mix well and store in an airtight container. When you're ready to make a mug tea, here's how:

Add 1/2 cup of mixture to mug. (If you omit the Splenda, use 1T less than 1/2C.) Add a splash of cold water and mix well until you have a smooth paste with no lumps. Slowly add ho****er and continue mixing to eliminate any lumps. I have large mugs so I used about 12oz of water per batch. If you have smaller mugs, then reduce the amount of dry mix.  Keep the spoon in the mug and stir occassionally as you drink it -- the ingredients tend to settle to the bottom of the mug otherwise.

I
f you want to mix your drink the "automated" way (like I do), here's how. Add 1/2c mixture to a blender jar and add the splash of cold water. Leave the lid off the blender jar and turn it on low and let it mix for a few seconds and then slowly add ho****er from the tea kettle while the blender is still whirling. Pour into a mug and enjoy.

This is great with a bit of "whippage" on top (and it's pretty too!).  I use RediWhip in a can and it adds about 15-20 extra calories.  A side note... I bet this would be awesome using instant coffee instead of tea, try it and let me know.

Sounds good.  Except for the vanilla protein powder and the decaf tea, I have all of these ingredients.  If I make it though, I would probably do coffee, instead of tea.  I'll let you know.  Not sure if I want to buy the protein powder and then not like this and have a waste of protein powder.

I've heard reports from people who have used the "leftover" protein powders that they hated in other drinks and they still love the protein chai tea.  So I think the added flavors tend to cover up whatever protein taste you might normally get.

I was thinking on my drive into work this morning that this would be great blended with ice and made into a cold shake.  But not during winter... :-)

I haven't used protein powders in ages.  I had a difficult time with powders because the majority (at the time) are whey based and I'm allergic to dairy.  I took awhile for me to find soy protein powder, but I became accustomed to getting my protein through food, only.  So, never really got into the protein powder drinks.  But I did like the Gensoy vanilla powder, so maybe I'll get a container.  They aren't TOO huge or too expensive.

Oh and I agree, even though I haven't had it.  It does sound like it'd make a good shake...but yeah, not right now.  Maybe mid-August?  LOL!

THanks for sharing the recipe Pam!  I am going to try this.  I drink a protein coffee every morning of the work week and I bet this recipe will taste a lot like the protein coffee I make with a scoop of BF vanilla and a splash of Caramel SF Torani.  I'll make it with the coffee and let you know who it turns out!

This does look very good!  I love tea, I have 2 cups every morning.  I'm going to print this out and keep it for future reference.  Thanks so much for sharing!
