I need some advice....
Today my husband is really concerned. I called and left him a message to pick up some dog food. He said when I started talking he thought I was calling to have him take me to the hospital.
Any thoughts as to what might be going on?
Thanks, Sandi
are you still taking the pain meds?
Are you Drinking your water?
How much protein are you getting?
I know at about two weeks out I was just tired. They say this happens because of the reduced calories.
You and send Annette the Nut. a note and make her aware of how you are feeling.
better safe than sorry.
No I'm not still taking pain meds. When I first came home I used it every night before bed so I could sleep. Then I started worrying about getting addicted to it so I stopped.
I feel like this is more than just being tired, but I don't know.
I did send Annette an email. I don't really expect a response until Monday though.
Thanks, Sandi
I ended up in the ER because of dehydration around week 2. Plus, you are in starvation mode. Your body is freaking out!
Make sure to track your fluids and protein. If you are having trouble getting in both, you may have to go back to 3 shakes a day to get both in. Have you been moved to pureed yet? Sometimes we are so eager to try the soft foods that we just can't get in all of the liquid, etc.
I was so worried about dehydration this time that I had a sf popcicle stuck in my mouth every second of the first two weeks.
Remember, your body needs fuel to function.
That is also when I started using 1 protein shake a day because I wasn't getting enough in. I counted that liquid as part of my 64 ozs. Now I'm thinking maybe I should also try to get more actual water.

Jan
So it's not nutrition related.....I would be worried if you are MORE tired than you were last week.
As Jan said, being tired is a normal part of recovery, but you should be feeling a little better every day. I would write down your symptoms (like are you lethargic all the time? Just at certain times, etc.) and call your surgeon. You could have an underlying infection, or it could be nothing at all.
Rest up and feel better!
have you taken your temp lately?
And call Dr. Carlin or the purble team just to be sure. That is what they are there for.
How about othe meds like for co morbidities. Could they need to be adjusted since you have had surgery and are now losing? Stuff like insulin, thyrod meds. any thing like that.
Did you make an apt. with pcp yet.
Call the doc and get checked out do you have the purple team number if not I have it.
313 916 2600 That is the general surgery residen Ask for the Purple team.
It dosn't hurt to ask. better safe than sorry.
The page says
Please take immediate action if you note the following symptoms:
Vomiting with every meal
inability to keep food down, including liquids
Discomfort after eating solid foods too soon
unexplained sharp pain
Rapid pulse/heart rate
fever of more that 101 degrees
breathing or respiratory problems including shortness of breath, pain while brieathin or feeling winded afte walking a couple of steps
Pain in your arms, legs or shoulders
incisional bleading or infection
any other unusual or unexpected symptons.
I've heard it called "hibernation syndrome", at about week 2-3, some people just get whammed with fatigue. Your body now realizes that your not on a crash diet and your not going to cheat, so it slows way down to conserve energy to save your life. Remember out bodies are programmed to save us from starvation, it doesn't know you did this on purpose.
That's just my 2 cents.
