Hey

Just up and at em for a little while. I had a hard night sleeping... coughing and nose stuff.... I only got 5 hours and I usually cannot function on less than 8 so it will be an interesting day. I am drinking my crystal light right now but ready to start the coffee maker

Haiti is such a tragedy and I am sure I am going to get people hating me for saying this... but we have SOOOO many things here in America that are in need.. The temps are low and we have homeless people with no shelters to go too, we have school age children not eating on the weekends because Mom and Dad have no money, we have an economy that is horrible, we have children being abused and placed in the state's care, we have all of these things happening here in America and my opinion is that we need to start AT home first to take care of our own... I understand some people are compelled to help over there but this is just my opinion... please don't hate me for that.

QOTD: I am looking forward to a new stove, a possible trip to Disney World, and hopefully a placement that will lead us to an adoption... I know big dreams for a girl right? We will be getting a new stove when taxes come in so that is done pretty much.. Now time to start saving for Disney!

Have a great weekend everyone!

Good morning all -

I wasn't around the boards yesterday  because I had a morning doctor appointment yesterday - follow up with my PCP from my annual appointment.  Got the results back from my bone density scan and diagnosed with Spinal Ostoepenia - the precursor to osteoporosis (likely a result of 5 years on Depo Provera).  He's also re-checking my copper levels as they were low last time and symptoms seem to point to it still being low or dropping even more ... should have those results early next week.  My PCP is also now stumped with finding the reason behind my not losing weight - so he's referring me to an endocrinologist.  I see him next month.  More details on the blog.

QOTD -- Since you mentioned sandy beaches, it makes me remember my commitment last summer to hit the beach more often.  Which I did and enjoyed a lot.  So this coming summer will be more of the same.  To just keep the beach chair and umbrella in the trunk of my car at all times and the cooler close at hand in the kitchen at home -- so I can pack up and hit the beach at a moment's notice again this summer.  I'm an Aquarius, so I feel most at peace when I'm near the water.

Pam,

Sorry to hear you've been dx'd with that.  Can something like Flomax reverse that for you?  Doesn't you Mom also have this?  Is it hereditary?

Anyways, sorry to hear you'll be fighting that, you are much to young to be facing that already.

Edie -

Yes my mom has osteoporosis.  So my osteopenia may be related to that or heridity might have some contributing factor.  My condition is fairly mild at this point with no sign of bone loss in my hip, just my spine.  A lot of clinical studies seem to be saying that after discontinuing Depo Provera that the bone density comes back after a couple years on its own.  So that's what we're hoping for.  I'll be retested in a year and if it's not getting better then we'll discuss some of the drug options - like Fosamax, although that particular brand/type of med isn't ideal for WLS folks.  We'll see how it goes.

Thanks for the message.  It's definitely not encouraging news and I'm trying hard not to worry over it much.

Pam

Well if I know you, your looking for every way your body can absorb all the calcium it can handle.  I know your very good at taking your calcium (because of your Mom's hx,  if I'm not mistaken).  So if there's anything you can do to help this, I know you will.

Good luck with next years test.

Pam I see that it says 5 K run. I am not a very good runner yet. Can I walk it.

Yes, you can walk.  I walk all my races -- it's very rare that races don't have a walking division and when that's the case, they shout it out in big bold letters (usually just for marathons or longer races).
